Opening of the 358th AUN-QA Program Assessment: VNU-USSH accredits the quality of 03 training programs according to international standards

This morning, October 31, 2023, the Opening Ceremony of the 358th AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH).
Attending the opening ceremony, on behalf of the 358th AUN-QA Assessment Team, there was the presence of Prof. Dr. Rohaida Mohd. Saat, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia, Head of the Assessment Committee and Assessors of 04 training programs of 2 universities.
On the side of Hanoi National University, there were Dr. Nghiem Xuan Huy - Director of the Institute for Education Quality Assurance; Dr. Tran Thi Hoai - Deputy Director; Dr. Bui Vu Anh - Deputy Director;
On the side of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, there were Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Principal of the school, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Vice Principal, Dr. Pham Huy Cuong - Director of the Center for Education Quality Assurance; along with staff and lecturers from the faculties of International Studies, Psychology, and Sociology.
On the side of VNU University of Science, there were Prof. Dr. Vu Hoang Linh - Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quoc Binh - Vice Rector; Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Son - Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngac An Bang - Vice Rector; and lecturers of the school.
The 358th AUN-QA assessment team with assessors from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines will work at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Natural Sciences to assess the training programs. The team includes 4 working groups:
- Group 1: Evaluation of the Bachelor of Sociology training program (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU)
- Group 2: Evaluation of the Bachelor of Psychology training program (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU)
- Group 3: Evaluation of the International Studies Bachelor's Program (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU)
- Group 4: Evaluation of the Bachelor of Nuclear Technology and Engineering (University of Science, VNU)
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Nghiem Xuan Huy - Director of the Institute for Education Quality Assurance, VNU, said that VNU has the mission of training high-quality human resources and nurturing talents; promoting advanced science and technology, innovation and knowledge transfer; contributing to the construction, development and protection of the Fatherland; playing an important and pioneering role in the innovation of Vietnam's higher education system. Therefore, VNU always aims for international quality accreditation of training programs.

At VNU, ensuring educational quality is always a regular and continuous task. Currently, the rate of accredited undergraduate programs is 63.7%, of which international accreditation accounts for 32.6%, and the rate of accredited master's programs is 7.9%, of which international accreditation accounts for 6.7%. These are remarkable numbers.
According to AUN-QA's educational accreditation standards, important aspects of the training program will be assessed, such as: program objectives and learning outcomes, teaching content, teaching methods, assessment methods, quality assurance activities, lecturers and students, facilities and student support, etc. From there, the assessment team will provide advice to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Natural Sciences to improve and enhance the quality of the training program.

Dr. Nghiem Xuan Huy emphasized: “This will be a great opportunity for us to receive useful advice from education experts from leading universities in the region, helping us identify strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement in the evaluated programs in particular and the training quality at VNU in general.
The accreditation of training programs according to international standards will contribute to improving the competitiveness of students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the labor market as well as enhancing the reputation and brand of the school, making a positive contribution to the development of society."

With a pioneering position, playing a core role in training and researching basic sciences of the country to reach regional and international levels, in recent times, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU has always been a pioneer in assessing and improving training quality.
Up to now, VNU-USSH has had 9 training programs certified for quality accreditation according to AUN-QA standards, and 15 training programs certified for quality accreditation according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training.
In 2023, the school will continue to evaluate 03 training programs according to AUN-QA standards (training programs in Psychology, Sociology, International Studies) and inspect 03 more training programs according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training (Information Management, Library Information, Tourism and Travel Services Management).
