- Research objective: This thesis clarifies the current state of Vietnam-Indonesia cooperation on maritime delimitation from 1978 to 2023. Based on this, it analyzes the achievements, forecasts prospects, and offers some policy recommendations for Vietnam.
- Research subject: The situation of maritime delimitation cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia from 1978 to 2023.

Based on the selective adoption and development of the achievements of related research works both domestically and internationally, with an international relations approach, this dissertation is a new, in-depth, and systematic study on Vietnam-Indonesia cooperation on maritime delimitation, with the following contributions:
Firstly, the thesis has systematized and provided basic knowledge about maritime delimitation in international law and international cooperation practice; contributing to clarifying the diversity and characteristics of the application of international law in maritime delimitation cooperation between two countries, specifically in the case of Vietnam and Indonesia.
Secondly, the study identifies and analyzes the influencing factors and motivations of the parties involved, clarifying the current state of Vietnam-Indonesia cooperation on maritime delimitation from 1978 to 2023; contributing to enriching Vietnam-Indonesia cooperation, especially during the period 1978-2023.
Thirdly, through an analysis of the current state of maritime delimitation cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia from 1978 to 2023, the thesis draws out the characteristics and lessons learned from the cooperation in maritime delimitation between the two countries.
Fourth, the thesis forecasts the situation in the South China Sea, the prospects for Vietnam-Indonesia cooperation in the coming period, and recommends some policies for Vietnam.
Fifth, the thesis contributes to enriching the source of reference materials for policy planning related to cooperation in maritime delimitation negotiations in general, drawing lessons from Vietnam-Indonesia cooperation on maritime delimitation and research and teaching on international relations in Southeast Asia, as well as interdisciplinary studies combining international studies, political science, and law.
