- Through the case study of Sanyutei Encho, the thesis hasAnalyze and clarify the role of urban artists and writers in attracting the masses., andThe process of transformation of Edo's urban cultural traditions, a crucial prerequisite and driving force for the modernization of Japanese society and culture..

- This dissertation is the first research work in Vietnam on the history of Japan during the Meiji period, approaching the study in depth the career and activities of a historical figure - a prominent cultural figure of the time, connecting the flow of two important periods in Japanese history: the Edo period and the Meiji period. It is also the first study to approach the issue from the perspectives of social history, cultural history, and art history.

- This dissertation is also the first large-scale study in Vietnam researching the figure of Sanyutei Encho, using Encho as the subject of a case study to shed light on related historical and social issues during the Meiji era.

11. Practical applications:

- To contribute a reference document in the field of research and teaching of Japanese history in particular, and modern and contemporary world history in general, in Vietnam.

- Continue research on the development of urban culture during the Edo and Meiji periods.

- Clarifying the evolution trend of the Japanese social – cultural history during the Meiji period; analyzing the process of inheriting and acculturation of Yose vaudeville art and storytelling - Rakugo from a townspeople's social – cultural tradition which strongly developed during the Edo period to become a genre bearing the trace of modernization of the Meiji period.

- Examining original historical sources, documents and studies on Sanyutei Encho - an author, Rakugo storyteller, excellent popular cultural activism of the late Edo - early Meiji period - in the relationship with the contemporary events and context to identify Sanyutei Encho's life, career and social relationships, his main contributions and influences in the Meiji's social - cultural life of Japan.

- Analyzing and clarifying, by the case study on Sanyutei Encho, the role of urban artists in stimulating the mass population and the acculturation of the Edo's popular cultural tradition, a premise and inner force of the Japanese social - cultural modernization.

- The thesis is the first study on Japanese history in the Meiji era from the perspective of in-depth research on the activities and contributions of a great cultural activist and historical figure which connects the downstream of the two important periods of the Japanese history – Edo and Meiji. It is also the first study that approaches the matter from the perspective of culture and art history.

- The thesis is a first large-scale research work on Sanyutei Encho in Vietnam, also a first work that takes up Encho as a case study to illustrate related historical issues in the Meiji era.

The thesis is expected to contribute a reference document in the research and teaching of Japanese history as well as world's modern history in Vietnam.
