10. Summary of the thesis results:
Adolescent depression is one of the most common disorders, occurring between the ages of 12 and 18, especially during puberty. Adolescent depression can be triggered by a specific event or by a psychophysiological phase in adolescents. It occurs over a specific period, potentially lasting a year or longer. Adolescent depression differs from typical symptoms of depression in general, such as agitation and irritability; adolescents may exhibit a melancholic mood but sometimes become irritable and easily angered. In this case study, the psychologist used cognitive-behavioral therapy combined with relaxation therapy for intervention. The treatment period lasted 8 months and was divided into two phases. The 17-year-old client exhibited typical symptoms of adolescent depression that extended from age 14 to 17. Friendships, academic performance, and family relationships influenced the client's progress.
The research results show that family and school have a strong relationship with the psychophysiological and emotional changes of the client. Cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive restructuring, and relaxation are effective in treating adolescent depression. Collaboration with the family in therapy is essential in the treatment of depression.
11. Practical applications:
Based on the results obtained from theoretical and practical research on a clinical case, this thesis presents an overview of a clinical case involving the application of psychological therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive restructuring, and relaxation to help a client reduce depressive symptoms. This demonstrates the potential application of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive restructuring, and relaxation in treating depression in adolescents. However, each clinical case has its own unique characteristics, and a treatment plan should be tailored to the client's specific situation. The thesis emphasizes the role of family, the therapeutic relationship, and the psychologist's techniques in the effectiveness of interventions and treatment for depression in adolescents.
