The thesis aims to clarify the events that occurred in 1972 in the documentary films Victory of Loc Ninh by the group of authors Pham Khanh Hung, Dong Cam, Quang Dat, Trong Hoi, Quoc Hung, Nguyen Que, Thanh Dung, Bat Diet, Thanh Cao, Van Minh, Pham Nam, Ho Thanh Xuan; Hanoi the epic, directed by Phan Quang Dinh - Ngo Dang Tuat; The historical year 1972, directed by Le Lam - Vuong Duc Cu. Through the approach from the narrative perspective, we want to find out the similarities and differences in the approach as well as the method of expression of the epic in the three documentaries of the People's Army Cinema.
From there, we present research and evaluation of the documentary genre, narrative art, and epic quality through clarifying the story, plot, narrative structure, characters, narrator, and point of view. At the same time, the thesis also clarifies the cinematic language through analyzing artistic elements such as staging, filming, editing, and sound. From there, we affirm the values of documentary films, a genre with historical documentary value, hot events, hot issues, containing social and humanistic meanings. In addition, epic quality is used by political documentary filmmakers in their works to reflect major events of historical significance in the life of a nation, a country, thereby affirming the ideals and aspirations of the people and of the times.
