The thesis aims to clarify the discourse on the contemporary Vietnam People's Army soldier through the documentary films The Sea Keepers, On the A Mu Sung Peak, The War in Peacetime, Bay Co Dong Thap, Le Huu Thao - Memories of the Sea Soldier. The thesis uses the main approach from the theory of discourse, combined with the approach from the perspective of poetics, and the operations of comparison, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. From there, we present research and evaluation of the characteristics of the discourse on the contemporary Vietnam People's Army soldier through the analysis of the qualities of the soldier shown in 5 films. At the same time, the thesis examines the elements of cinematic language to clarify the art of discourse including staging, filming, editing, and sound. Through that, we come to clarify the ideological and cultural contents hidden in the films, the values, and qualities of the soldier in the new era.
