History of formation
The Faculty of Psychology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, is one of the most prestigious institutions for psychology training and research in the country. Its predecessor was the Psychology Department of the Philosophy Faculty, Hanoi University (1977), tasked with teaching general psychology to students at the university. On December 10, 1997, according to Decision No. 644/TCCB of the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the Faculty of Psychology was separated into an independent faculty with the main function and task of providing undergraduate and postgraduate training and conducting scientific research in psychology. This was the first institution in the country to offer a Bachelor of Psychology degree as an independent specialization.
At the time of its establishment, the Faculty of Psychology had two departments: General Psychology and Social Psychology, with 7 teaching staff members including 1 associate professor, 3 PhDs, and 4 Bachelor of Psychology. From 2000 to 2010, three more departments were established within the faculty: Clinical Psychology, Management and Business Psychology, and Counseling Psychology, increasing the number of specialized departments to 5. In 2020, the General Psychology department was renamed the Development Psychology department. To date, the total number of staff in the faculty is 20, including 18 lecturers and 2 specialists. The current number of full-time lecturers includes 8 associate professors, 8 PhDs, and 2 Master's degree holders/doctoral candidates.
