History of formation
The Faculty of Psychology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the most prestigious psychology training and research institutions in the country. The predecessor of the Faculty was the Psychology Department of the Faculty of Philosophy, Hanoi National University (1977) with the task of teaching General Psychology to students in the school. On December 10, 1997, according to Decision No. 644/TCCB of the Director of VNU, the Faculty of Psychology was separated into an independent faculty with the main functions and tasks of undergraduate and postgraduate training and scientific research in psychology. This is the first institution in the country to have the function of training bachelors in psychology as an independent major.
At the time of establishment, the Faculty of Psychology had two departments: General Psychology and Social Psychology, with 7 teaching staff including 1 associate professor, 3 PhDs and 4 bachelors of psychology. From 2000 to 2010, three other departments were established in the faculty, including: Clinical Psychology, Management - Business Psychology and Counseling Psychology, bringing the number of departments in the faculty to 5 specialized departments. In 2020, the Department of General Psychology was renamed the Department of Developmental Psychology. Up to now, the total number of staff in the faculty is 20, including 18 lecturers and 02 specialists. The current number of permanent lecturers includes 8 associate professors, 08 PhDs and 02 masters-graduate students.
In order to achieve the development goal in the direction of a research university of Hanoi National University and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Faculty of Psychology clearly defines its mission and development vision with the main driving force being to link training with scientific research and practical application.
Mission
Strive to become a prestigious institution in training high-quality human resources in the field of psychology, in scientific research and psychological practice, meeting social needs for mental health care services.
Vision: Improve the quality of training, scientific research and practical skills in the fields of Psychology, meeting the requirements of society and gradually integrating internationally.
Outstanding achievements
With the above mission, by 2024, the Faculty has trained 27 regular graduates (from K38 to K63), is training 4 standard students and 4 CLC students (from K65 to K68). In the past 27 years, the Faculty has trained more than 1,500 bachelors, 46 doctors and more than 200 masters. Currently, the number of people studying at the Faculty is nearly 400 regular students, nearly 100 students with 2 degrees, more than 200 part-time students, 154 graduate students and 26 research students.
In order to increase employment opportunities for students, the faculty has organized specialized training for students with 4 specialized orientations in the 7th semester of the training process, and opened the 5th specialized orientation in 2023. Accordingly, starting from the QH-2022-X course, students of the training program of the Faculty of Psychology can choose 1 of 5 specific specialized orientations: developmental psychology, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social psychology and management - business psychology. With an interactive educational and training environment, combined with scientific research, learners can maximize their creativity, understanding and skills during the training process to be able to integrate into the best career after graduation. Job opportunities for students and pupils are also very diverse, including positions such as lecturers, researchers, psychological consultants, mental health assessors, school psychologists, consultants, human resource recruiters, etc. in facilities such as hospitals, schools, psychological care and intervention centers, projects of NGOs, businesses, community projects, etc.
