VNU will organize an aptitude test for high school students.

On December 16, 2020, VNU held a Conference to summarize undergraduate and graduate enrollment in 2020 and enrollment methods in 2021.
 
Director Nguyen Kim Son, Deputy Director Nguyen Hoang Hai and Head of Training Department Nguyen Dinh Duc co-chaired the conference.
Also attending were representatives of leaders, admissions officers of member and affiliated training units, representatives of leaders of the Office and functional departments of VNU.
Head of Training Department Nguyen Dinh Duc presented a summary report on regular university enrollment in 2020 and enrollment orientation in 2021.
 
At the conference, delegates listened to and discussed reports summarizing regular university admissions, graduate admissions in 2020 and admissions orientations in 2021; Report on the draft Project on high school competency assessment exams for the period 2021-2025.
In 2020, VNU continues to use the results of the high school graduation exam to consider admission to full-time universities. University admissions in 2020 will be implemented in the direction of diversifying admission forms towards international standards. Up to now, VNU has completed university admissions and recruited 11,833 candidates to study in 133 undergraduate majors/training programs; Completed the goal of recruiting quality students; Enhanced autonomy and responsibility of training units; Professionalized admissions at VNU; All admission methods of VNU have candidates registered for admission, passed and enrolled, especially the combined admission method (international language certificate combined with the scores of 2 subjects in the admission combination of the major/training program - mainly candidates with IELTS English certificate of at least 5.5 or higher) and achieved encouraging results (508 candidates passed the admission by this method - accounting for 5% of the total target), increasing the rate of direct admission and combined admission in 2020 to 15%.
 

The principles and methods of admission in 2020 create many opportunities and advantages for candidates. Candidates can choose unlimited admission wishes and change their wishes once after knowing the results of the high school graduation exam, helping candidates have the opportunity to study their favorite major, suitable for their abilities. High-quality training programs have the highest admission results ever, accounting for 41% of the 2020 enrollment scale.
The application of information technology in online registration, admission, and admission confirmation helps candidates and their families limit travel, avoid lost documents, and save time and costs for admission boards.
 
 
Regarding the 2021 university admissions, VNU continues to stabilize and use the results of the high school graduation exam for admission and admission by other methods (direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and specific regulations of VNU, admission based on international standardized test results SAT, ACT, A-Level, international language certificates IELTS and equivalent), admission based on the results of the high school student assessment test (organized by VNU).
In addition, VNU continues to expand and adjust the direct admission criteria for students who achieve excellent results in provincial-level exams, candidates from specialized high schools outside VNU with excellent academic results and high school graduation exam results that meet the input quality assurance threshold of the industry.
In the coming time, VNU will continue to promote its advantages, absorb the opinions of experts, teachers, candidates, society and learn from the 2020 admission period, perfecting the conditions to ensure quality, admission methods, and admission time in a more convenient direction for learners. From 2021, the Ministry of Education and Training will assign admission work to universities on the basis of implementing the new general education training program. VNU has been preparing the material conditions and capacity to build a roadmap for organizing the High School Student Competency Assessment Exam to serve the admission work (as one of the university admission methods) in the coming time.

Regarding postgraduate admissions, the 2020 admissions took place safely and seriously, in accordance with the Temporary Regulations on Postgraduate Admissions at VNU and VNU's regulations. According to statistics, the number of candidates admitted to the master's level increased by 23.5%, the number of candidates admitted to the doctoral level increased by 33.8% compared to 2019.

Admissions based on the competency assessment method (AAP) and the selection method continue to be expanded, the AAP method is applied to 81 training programs, the selection method is applied to 16 training programs. The university admission councils have carefully prepared the conditions for organizing the exam, guiding and training the exam supervisors to master their skills and responsibilities. The exam supervisors and the exam service staff have completed their assigned tasks well. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized 3 more local exam locations, thanks to the careful preparation, the exam took place safely and in accordance with regulations. The university admission councils have carried out the exam marking, entering the exam locations and announcing the exam results basically in accordance with regulations and on schedule. Some technical issues that arose were resolved promptly, within the authority, in accordance with the current regulations and regulations, ensuring the rights of the candidates.

It is expected that the 2021 postgraduate entrance exam will be divided into 2 rounds: Round 1 will be held on April 17 and 18, 2021; Round 2 will be held on September 11 and 12, 2021. 
According to the 2021 enrollment orientation report of the University Admissions Steering Committee, the master's and doctoral admission councils basically remain stable as in 2020, expanding the priority admission subjects, direct admission for candidates who have graduated from regular universities in the right majors under talented, international standard, high-quality training programs... (for master's level) and candidates with academic achievements, scientific research at university, master's level and have scientific articles published in ISI/Scopus journals... (for doctoral level).

Also at the conference, delegates listened to and discussed the draft project for the National High School Graduation Exam. Accordingly, the project was built on the basis of practical experience in general education program innovation in particular and university education innovation in general. As with the previous National High School Graduation Exams of 2015 and 2016, candidates completed the National High School Graduation Exam in one session of each exam period. The exam results were announced immediately after the candidates completed the exam. The certificate of exam results was sent to candidates 03 weeks after the exam date.
In 2021, the National University Examinations (GNI) is expected to be held at the VNU Examination Center with a scale of about 10,000 candidates, 4-5 sessions from May to October, each session with about 1,000-2,000 candidates. VNU can expand its scale by exploiting the resources and facilities of member units, affiliated units or partners.

Speaking at the conference, VNU Vice President Nguyen Hoang Hai, Head of VNU Admissions Steering Committee, said that in 2021 and the following years, training units need to review the training scale to determine enrollment targets to improve training quality. Along with that, it is necessary to improve learning conditions, develop facilities and other quality assurance conditions, and it is necessary to identify quality as the most important factor to attract students at VNU. Regarding university admissions, the Head of the Admissions Steering Committee requested to continue diversifying admission methods, expanding the subjects of direct admission, and giving priority to admission. At the same time, it is necessary to conduct investigations and surveys to make assessments of the quality of candidates studying university training programs with the right majors and majors close to university training programs.

Concluding the conference, VNU Director Nguyen Kim Son acknowledged and commended the efforts of the staff and departments involved in the enrollment work. The Director assessed that VNU had successfully conducted the undergraduate and graduate enrollment periods, achieving the set goals: safety, quality, seriousness, according to plan, according to regulations, creating consensus and response throughout VNU.
 
Director Nguyen Kim Son said that the enrollment results of last year showed that the majors of VNU have clear stratification, the attractiveness of the training majors according to social needs. Therefore, there needs to be appropriate support and adjustment policies.
 
In 2021, VNU will basically maintain the total training scale, enrollment quotas and enrollment methods. Training units need to consider adjusting the quotas of each major/training program in accordance with the scale and training capacity of the unit. Regarding enrollment forms and policies, VNU will continue to combine stable enrollment methods as applied in 2020 and continue to research and flexibly apply experience in organizing the National High School Exam, and develop facilities to organize the National High School Exam in the following years. Director Nguyen Kim Son emphasized, "In 2021, VNU will organize the National High School Exam for high school students. This is a multi-purpose exam, in which VNU training institutions can use the results of this exam as a method for university admission." Training units need to consider and clearly define the ratio of university admission quotas for candidates using the results of the National High School Exam.
 
Regarding postgraduate admissions, the Director of VNU emphasized that in the coming time, the key task is to improve the scale and quality of doctoral admissions. VNU will continue to build pre-doctoral programs and scholarship funds for doctoral students from many sources to provide the highest support for doctoral students during their training.
 
Expected admission methods to VNU in 2021:

1. Direct admission and priority admission:
The Admissions Council of training units shall develop specific regulations on subjects for direct admission and priority admission, which shall be publicly announced on the websites of the training units, of VNU, on the admissions information page of the Ministry of Education and Training and on mass media. The Admissions Council of training units shall receive applications for direct admission and organize direct admission according to the plans of the Ministry of Education and Training and the instructions of VNU.
2. Admission:
- Admission for candidates with high school exam results in 2021.
- High school graduates or equivalent and have SAT or ACT scores according to VNU regulations;
- Candidates who have graduated from high school and have an international A-Level certificate according to regulations of VNU.
- Candidates who have graduated from high school and have an international English certificate (IELTS, TOEFL, etc.), combined with the scores of 2 subjects in the admission combination of the major/training program (in which Math or Literature is required).
- Candidates with high school student assessment results organized by VNU, meeting the input quality assurance threshold of the major/training program;
- Candidates are foreigners or Vietnamese studying high school abroad (admission according to VNU's separate regulations on admission of foreigners).
