Promoting the Vietnamese language and Vietnamese identity within the Vietnamese community abroad.

On August 27th, in Hanoi, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held the closing ceremony of the 2026 training course on Vietnamese language teaching methods for overseas Vietnamese teachers.

Acknowledging the serious, responsible, and dedicated learning spirit of the teachers, the Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, Nguyen Trung Kien, emphasized the role of Vietnamese language teachers abroad as "ambassadors of the Vietnamese language," "cultural ambassadors," and "ambassadors of friendship" in the community.

Through teaching Vietnamese, teachers contribute to helping the younger generation better understand the language, culture, history, and people of Vietnam, thereby strengthening their attachment to their homeland, country, and national identity.

The training course was organized immediately after the Politburo issued Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW on the work related to overseas Vietnamese in the new situation, which further affirmed the importance of preserving the Vietnamese language, national cultural identity, and strengthening the connection between overseas Vietnamese and their homeland.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, the knowledge and experience gained from the course will contribute to improving teaching effectiveness, fostering love for the homeland and a sense of origin among young Vietnamese people abroad.

The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese will continue to support teachers and communities through training programs, provision of learning materials, and connections with experts and educational institutions.

At the closing ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hong Son, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), stated that the university has developed a Vietnamese language proficiency framework for foreigners, organized Vietnamese language certification exams, and promoted the teaching of Vietnamese to Vietnamese people abroad on digital platforms.

These activities contribute to meeting the learning and usage needs of foreigners and the Vietnamese community abroad in Vietnam, while also promoting the Vietnamese language to the world. The school is committed to continuing its role in preserving and spreading the Vietnamese language in the future.

During the program, participants highly appreciated the practicality of the training course, not only in terms of content and Vietnamese language teaching methods but also in the real-world experiences that helped them gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture, history, and people.

Ms. Dao Thi Anh Tuyet, a Vietnamese expatriate in South Korea, believes that the training course not only supplements teaching methods but also helps teachers understand and appreciate Vietnamese culture, history, and people even more.

Practical experiences at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Temple of Literature (Hanoi); Tam Chuc (Ninh Binh); Do Temple, Dinh Bang communal house (Bac Ninh) and enjoying Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk singing... become valuable resources to include in the classroom.

Emphasizing the networking value of the training course, Ms. Pham Thi Linh, a Vietnamese expatriate from Taiwan (China), said that 50 trainees from many different countries and territories had the opportunity to directly share methods, materials, initiatives, and practical experiences.

The students recognize that every Vietnamese language class, every cultural activity, or helping a child born abroad maintain their Vietnamese language skills with their family are practical ways to "keep the flame" of the Vietnamese language alive.

Sharing similar sentiments, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien from Malaysia, the "class leader" of the training course, said that the course helped trainees access knowledge ranging from foundational concepts to practical issues in Vietnamese language classes abroad, while also resolving many teaching difficulties.

Besides academics, cultural experiences, performing arts practice, lotus tea making, and yearbook creation have fostered lasting memories and deep bonds among the students.

The training course also expanded professional connections after the program. Some instructors committed to organizing online classes to guide participants on using the learning materials; participants shared books and experiences in applying AI to lesson planning.

The training course lasted over two weeks, with 50 teachers from 14 countries and territories participating in 21 sessions of instruction, practice, and observation.

The program combines professional knowledge with pedagogical methods and experiences of Vietnamese culture and history; focusing on content such as teaching phonetics, vocabulary, writing, classroom organization, assessment, and incorporating Vietnamese culture, history, country, and people into teaching.

Practical activities at historical sites, museums, and educational institutions provide students with additional materials, experiences, and inspiration to incorporate into their lectures.

Beyond providing knowledge and teaching methods, the training course also creates opportunities for teachers to strengthen connections, share experiences, and continue spreading the Vietnamese language within the Vietnamese community abroad.

After the course, 50 teachers returned to 14 countries and territories, bringing with them the knowledge, methods, and cultural experiences to apply to their Vietnamese language teaching.

According to information from the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, another online Vietnamese language training course is scheduled to be held in December 2026.
