Proud of our origins at the Faculty of Humanities

In 2026, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will welcome 2,809 new students for the QH-2026-X cohort. The quality of incoming students continues to be high, with 25% belonging to the top 5% and nearly 50% belonging to the top 10% of candidates with high scores in the 2026 high school graduation exam. This is a source of pride for the students as they begin their new journey at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, but it also requires them to continue developing their abilities, proactively studying, and growing in the university environment.

In his welcoming speech for the K71 cohort, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hong Son - Vice Rector of the University - emphasized the pride in the tradition, mission, and achievements that generations of staff, lecturers, and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have persistently built. With an 80-year tradition, the University plays an important role in training leading experts in the field of social sciences and humanities; pioneering in building academic disciplines, training and research fields; and simultaneously fulfilling its national mission in developing basic sciences, linking research with consulting, knowledge transfer, and community service. These values ​​are continued in the training environment with a highly qualified faculty, with 85% of lecturers holding doctoral degrees, of which approximately 25% are professors and associate professors.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities continues to affirm its position as one of Vietnam's leading training institutions in social sciences and humanities, with many fields achieving international rankings such as Linguistics (251–300), Sociology (301–375) and Social Sciences and Management (353 worldwide). Looking towards 2030, the University strives to have at least two disciplines in the top 150 in Asia and two in the top 300 worldwide.

The new students are the ones who will continue to write the proud history of the university with their abilities and their aspirations for learning and research.

From "breaking out of the cocoon" to proactively maturing.

For new students, entering university is not simply a transition from one level of education to another. The university leadership emphasizes that this is a period where students need to change their learning methods, their way of thinking, and their self-perception. The image of "breaking out of the cocoon," mentioned by Vice Rector Dang Hong Son, highlights the process by which each student gradually leaves their comfort zone, developing greater initiative and responsibility for their studies and personal choices.

For students with strong academic backgrounds like those in the K71 cohort, the admission results are merely the starting point. The university environment demands that students continue to develop their abilities through active learning, research, practical experience, and participation in academic and social activities. With an ecosystem of over 30 clubs; diverse scholarship programs totaling over 20 billion VND; and varied research, internship, practical, and international academic exchange activities, VNU-USSH students will have numerous opportunities to develop their capabilities within this institution. This spirit aligns with the university's development orientation towards becoming an elite university.

Preparing for the K71 journey.

During Orientation Week, K71 students were introduced to practical content about studying, training, and student life. In the sessions on "Learn Right, Learn Enough, Learn Smart" and "Practice Diligently, Excel, Win Scholarships," faculty from the Training and Student Affairs Department provided information on training regulations, learning and training methods, and scholarship policies. New students were also introduced to the Library and Digital Knowledge Center, the learning resources system, and various academic, cultural, sports, volunteer, and student movement activities organized by the Youth Union, Student Association, and the university's clubs.

The highlight of the program was the talk show "Vietnamese Identity Reaching the World," hosted by MC and Doctor Trinh Le Anh (Faculty of Tourism Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities), which offered ways for young people to express their love for their homeland through career choices, lifestyles, creativity, and aspirations to integrate Vietnamese identity with the world. A specialized session on sexual and reproductive health counseling, led by Dr. Nguyen Thi Binh (Song Han Medical Equipment Co., Ltd.), provided essential knowledge to help students proactively care for their health and build a healthy and responsible lifestyle.

The Integration Week provided K71 with their first experiences in familiarizing themselves with the Humanities environment, from learning methods, training, and accessing learning materials to student union activities, student culture, and healthcare. Beyond providing essential information for their future endeavors, the program also helped new students initially experience the spirit of Humanities, become proactive in their studies, take responsibility for the community, and be ready for integration.

The Orientation Week will continue until August 28, 2026, for new students in all majors. From August 24-28, 2026, students will participate in the annual health check-up, visit the Traditional Room, and meet faculty members at their respective departments/institutes.
