WE PASS - Supporting Humanities students on their journey to master general education courses.

Monday - December 22, 2025 05:20
During their university studies, there are certain courses considered "hurdles" that almost every student faces – these are the general education courses. With a large volume of knowledge, high academic standards, and a relatively new approach, many students, especially first and second-year students, experience significant pressure and confusion during their studies and exam preparation.
Based on that reality, WE PASS was created as a learning initiative with a spirit of sharing, companionship, and support to help students overcome the initial challenges of university life.
In 2017, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan – the Rector of the University (then Vice Rector) – was one of the pioneers who laid the foundation and gave special attention to the WE PASS project.
Founded in 2017, WE PASS was born from a very simple desire: to help students across the university overcome the general education courses that are often a "nightmare" for many in their first years of university. The idea behind WE PASS didn't stem from a rigid academic model, but from the real needs of humanities students: the need for a friendly, accessible learning space where students can review their knowledge, get answers to unclear points, and openly share learning experiences. With the spirit of "student-to-student support," WE PASS has gradually become a bridge between those who have mastered their courses and those who are struggling, providing students with companionship, support, and motivation before each exam.
From its inception, WE PASS has clearly defined its operational method based on the actual needs of learners. Before each semester, the program conducts a large-scale survey to identify the general courses that students struggle with or need to review extensively. Based on this, the organizing committee compiles and analyzes the needs, selects suitable courses, and contacts a team of speakers consisting of outstanding students and alumni to develop review content. Classes are organized to focus on systematizing core knowledge, clarifying exam structure, sharing effective study methods, and important notes for exam preparation, helping students approach the subject in a more relaxed and logical way.
Over the years, WE PASS has gradually established its scale and reach within the student community of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH). On average, each semester, the program attracts over 1,000 student registrations, organizing approximately 5 review classes with 400 to 500 students participating directly. These numbers not only reflect the high demand for general education courses among students but also demonstrate the enduring trust and support students have given WE PASS throughout its operation.
A key contribution to the success of WE PASS is the partnership of the host units each academic year. Notable examples include the Student Union and Student Association of the Faculty of Archival Studies and Office Management, the Faculty of Management Science, and the Faculty of Oriental Studies (although some semesters did not involve hosting). Through their hosting role, these units not only supported the organization, communication, and coordination of student participation, but also helped connect WE PASS activities with the practical academic lives of students in each faculty. The flexible collaboration between these units has helped the program maintain its interfaculty character, expand its reach, and create a shared learning space for students across the university.

Furthermore, the WE PASS speaker team is one of the key elements that makes the program unique. The speakers are outstanding students and alumni with excellent academic records, a thorough understanding of the course content, and effective assessment methods. Beyond simply imparting knowledge, they also share practical insights on study methods, memorization techniques, time management, and exam-taking strategies. This shared learning experience allows the speakers to easily connect with learners, creating a warm, open, and effective learning environment.
The WE PASS speaker team received certificates, gifts, and invaluable support from the organizers and students for their contributions to the project.
Speaker Ha Van Hung - a K67 History student - teaches the World Civilization History Review Class, and has been a partner with WE PASS and Humanities students for many semesters.
The General Logic review class for the first semester of the 2025-2026 academic year took place on the evening of December 18, 2025, with over 100 students in attendance. The speaker was Bui Thi Khanh Van, a K67 Office Management student.
After each session, WE PASS receives much positive feedback from participating students. The majority of students appreciate the practicality of the review content, stating that the classes help them better understand the core subjects, reduce exam stress, and boost their confidence in the examination room. Many students share that, thanks to participating in WE PASS, they not only improved their academic results but also changed their approach to learning, becoming more proactive and planned throughout their university studies.
Nguyen Gia Bao, a student from the K70 Literature class, shared that WE PASS is professionally organized, well-structured, attracts a large number of students, and receives much support from the student community. In particular, WE PASS provides a great source of motivation for students to study together and achieve good results. “When participating in WE PASS sessions, I was able to review what I already knew, check for gaps in my knowledge and thinking, and boost my motivation to study with many fellow students,” Nguyen Gia Bao said.
The WE PASS suggestion box, created after each review session, is for listening to and receiving feedback from students.
It can be affirmed that WE PASS is not simply a pre-exam review program, but has become a sustainable learning support model within the student community of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi. Through knowledge sharing, mutual support, and connection between generations of students, WE PASS contributes to building a positive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to be supported, listened to, and motivated on their journey to conquer knowledge.
