Korea Foundation Scholarship for VNU-USSH Students: A Bridge of Friendly Cooperation Between Korea and Vietnam

Attending the scholarship awarding ceremony were Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), representatives from the Department of Cooperation and Development, Politics and Student Affairs, the Faculty of Oriental Studies, and 15 scholarship recipients.Representing the scholarship-awarding organization was Mr. Woo Hyoung Min, Chief Representative of the Korea Foundation (KF) in Vietnam.
 

KF Scholarships - an investment in the young generation of Vietnam

Speaking at the scholarship awarding ceremony, Professor Lai Quoc Khanh expressed his deep gratitude to Mr. Woo Hyoung Min and the leadership of the Korea Foundation for International Exchange. Professor Lai Quoc Khanh emphasized: “We are in a special year, marking more than 30 years of comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Korea. Throughout this journey, the Korea Foundation for International Exchange and Samsung Group have made significant contributions through meaningful cooperation programs.”
Today, 15 scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year for Korean Studies students further affirm KF and Samsung's strong commitment to investing in the future of Vietnam's young generation. These scholarship recipients not only represent academic excellence but also symbolize hope and potential for further strengthening the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Korea.”
Congratulating the Korean Studies students who received scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year, Vice Rector Lai Quoc Khanh said: “Today’s scholarship is not only a recognition of your academic efforts, but also a testament to the trust that KF, Samsung, and your teachers place in you – representatives of the young generation of Vietnam. I hope that you will make good use of this opportunity, continuously learn, train, and strive to achieve new successes. You are not only the pride of the university, but also a bridge to further strengthen the friendship between Vietnam and Korea.” Mr. Woo Hyoung Min expressed his joy at returning to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and receiving the warm welcome from the university's leaders, staff, and students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. “As a leading research and training center in Vietnam in the field of social sciences and humanities, VNU-USSH has made significant contributions to the training of Korean Studies in Vietnam, helping to promote friendly cooperation between the two countries. Our Korean Studies students are not only proficient in Korean but also possess in-depth knowledge of the cultural traditions, history, economy, and diplomacy of Korea. They have served as bridges, strengthening educational, cultural, and economic exchanges between the two nations. We are honored to accompany them on their journey to pursue their chosen field,” Mr. Woo Hyoung Min shared.

Prospects for future cooperation

The Korea Foundation for International Exchange (KF; Korean: 한국국제교류재단; Hanja: 韓國國際交流財團) is a non-profit public diplomacy organization established in 1991 to promote a deeper understanding of Korea and strengthen friendship within the international community. The Foundation implements numerous exchange projects between Korea and foreign countries to foster mutual understanding.
In 2021, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Korea Foundation officially signed a cooperation agreement with specific contents such as building infrastructure, organizing seminars, publishing, implementing academic activities, and especially focusing on human development (training experts, awarding scholarships to students).
To date, the Foundation has awarded 60 scholarships to 60 VNU-USSH students (each worth $250), funded the construction of two high-quality, modern classrooms for teaching and research, and supported the organization of numerous scientific conferences attracting the participation of many scholars from both within and outside the country.
Professor Lai Quoc Khanh, on behalf of the University's Board of Directors, once again expressed sincere gratitude for the valuable support and partnership, and stated: “The 5-year cooperation agreement between VNU-USSH and KF has successfully concluded. However, the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Korea is expanding, especially in the field of education. Therefore, the potential for cooperation between the two institutions is enormous. Furthermore, next year marks the very important 80th anniversary of the tradition and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. We sincerely hope that Mr. Woo Hyoung Min and the KF Foundation will continue to show interest in the University so that both sides can continue to sign cooperation agreements, elevating the cooperative relationship to a new level. The Foundation's support is not only a source of encouragement for lecturers and students but also contributes to improving the quality of training experts in Korean studies in Vietnam.” Agreeing with the University's proposals, Mr. Woo Hyoung Min emphasized: "I fully support the idea of ​​Vice Rector Lai Quoc Khanh and hope that both sides will continue to have good cooperation in the future. Next year, the Korea Foundation plans to organize a large-scale technology forum, and Vietnam is the first country chosen to host it. I very much hope that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will be a partner with us in organizing this large-scale event. At the same time, the Foundation is committed to accompanying the University's activities on the occasion of the important 80th anniversary celebration in 2025."
