Five educators received the Vietnam Book Award 2013.

Since 2005, the Vietnam Book Award, organized annually by the Vietnam Publishers Association, has aimed to select and reward authors, publishers, printing houses, and illustrators who have contributed to creating excellent and beautiful books for readers both domestically and internationally.

Five educators received the Vietnam Book Award 2013.

The 2013 Vietnam Book Awards attracted participation from 37 publishers nationwide, with a total of 328 books submitted, including 188 for the Best Book category and 140 for the Best Designed Book category. After several rounds of selection, the judging panel chose 83 winning works, including 56 Best Book awards (1 Special Award, 4 Gold Awards, 16 Silver Awards, 19 Bronze Awards, and 16 Encouragement Awards) and 40 Best Designed Book awards (5 Gold Awards, 7 Silver Awards, 11 Bronze Awards, 13 Encouragement Awards, and 4 Best Cover Awards). Among the winners, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, had 5 faculty members and scientists who received the 2013 Vietnam Best Book Awards. We are pleased to present these to our readers.

1. "Thang Long Hanoi"(2 volumes) - Gold Award for Best Book - Hanoi Publishing House 2012 - Editor: Prof. Dr. Phan Huy Le

Thang Long - Hanoi, sacred and magnificent, a land that embodies and crystallizes national cultural values, has long received the favor and attention of many generations of scientists and researchers from various fields. On the occasion of the capital's 1000th anniversary, with dedication, love, and deep attachment to this thousand-year-old cultural space, and with diligent research, Professor Phan Huy Le, along with a large team of scientists, organized the research and compilation of the book "History of Thang Long - HanoiWith the desire to provide a systematic, comprehensive, and in-depth view of Thang Long - Hanoi, this two-volume book series, comprising 28 chapters divided by historical period, is like a slow-motion, close-up film of the entire history of the formation and development of Thang Long - Hanoi. It's not limited to the thousand years since the momentous event of establishing Thang Long as the capital, but also goes back to the pre-Thang Long era, from the time humans first appeared in this geographical area, closely linked to the formation of the Hanoi region. The series also shows readers the face of the modern capital, with its special and prominent role as a leading national political, economic, and cultural center. It can be said that this book series...History of Thang Long - HanoiIt is likened to a miniature museum, a treasure trove of documentary heritage for all those who love Hanoi, both domestically and internationally.

2. “Vietnam’s Intellectual Resources - History, Current Status, and Prospects”- Silver Award for Best Book - National Political Publishing House, 2012 - Editor: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh

Historically, Vietnam's intellectual resources have been strongly harnessed and developed. The cause of building and defending the nation is closely linked to the development of the intellectual resources of the Vietnamese people, nurtured and passed down from generation to generation, becoming an invaluable asset in the past, present, and future. In the current trend of developing a knowledge-based economy and international integration, the development of Vietnam's intellectual resources is an objective and urgent requirement.

In order to provide readers with an overall picture of the situation, current state, and prospects of Vietnam's intellectual resources, a team of scientists, with Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh as the editor-in-chief, has compiled the book ""Vietnam's Intellectual Resources - History, Current Status, and Prospects".Through a wealth of carefully selected source materials and concise, scientific arguments, the authors have focused on evaluating Vietnam's intellectual resources throughout history, analyzing the process of building and developing these resources, and subsequently proposing solutions and policy recommendations to the Party and State to develop Vietnam's intellectual resources, practically serving the cause of industrialization, modernization, and national development in the 21st century.

3. "Methodology and methods of linguistic research"- Bronze Award for Best Book - Vietnam Education Publishing House, 2012 - Author: Prof. Nguyen Thien Giap

The book consists of two main parts, presenting the following contents respectively: the methodology of the Geneva School, the methodology of the Prague School, the methodology of the Copenhagen School, the methodology of the American structuralist school, the methodology of the London School, the methodology of generative linguistics, the methodology of cognitive linguistics, and the methodology of anthropological linguistics, external explanatory methods... Each linguistic school is identified and examined under three foundations:(i) General introduction, (ii) Basic theory, and (iii) Philosophical foundations.

4. "Vietnamese Literature from the 10th to the 19th Centuries"- Bronze Award for Best Book - Vietnam Education Publishing House, 2012 - Author: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Nho Thin

"Vietnamese Literature from the 10th to the end of the 19th CenturyIt reflects the distinctive characteristics of medieval literature, from spatial and temporal divisions and literary movements to typical and representative figures in each period. This is the period that marked the beginning of written Vietnamese literature.

This book offers a systematic, objective, scientific, yet profoundly insightful perspective. It is intended for all those who love traditional national literature, as well as anyone interested in studying classical and medieval literature.

5. "Reforms in the structure of Vietnamese Nôm script"- Honorable Mention Award for Excellent Book - Hanoi National University Publishing House, 2012 - Author: Dr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong

This book addresses the issue of the evolution of the structure of Vietnamese Nôm script through the data of the "phonetic" and "explanatory" text groups.Book of PoetryDating back over a hundred years, this monograph addresses one of the fundamental issues in the study of Nôm script: the evolution (or rheology) of Nôm script structure over time. From its scientific concept and practical implementation to its supporting evidence, this is a scholarly monograph, both in its understanding, execution, and presentation techniques, a feat not easily achieved.

This book is a serious scientific work, with scientific value in confirming the trends of preservation and transformation.distanceOver time, the Nôm script has served the function of a phonetic writing system for the Vietnamese national language. Throughout its circulation, on the one hand, the Nôm script has successfully fulfilled its function as a writing system, thanks to its inherent ability to preserve and maintain uniformity. On the other hand, it has also been able to adapt to the phonetic changes in the Vietnamese language, as permitted by the Nôm script writing system.

The book is also valuable in providing Nôm script documents on the tradition of transcribing authoritative Confucian scholarly classics into Vietnamese – a case study.Book of PoetryIt also made significant contributions to understanding traditional linguistics based on textual data, correcting regrettable errors in the academic community's understanding of phonetic tradition.Book of Poetry.

This book contributes to the academic community's understanding of the unity in diversity of the East Asian cultural sphere throughout history. The academic community will have another book, a work that concretizes the "Vietnamese color" within the East Asian cultural landscape.
