05 teachers received the 2013 Vietnam Book Award

The 2013 Vietnam Book Awards attracted the participation of 37 publishers nationwide with a total of 328 books, including 188 books for the Good Book Award and 140 for the Beautiful Book Award. After many rounds of selection, the Jury selected 83 winning works, including 56 Good Book Awards (1 Special Award, 4 Gold Awards, 16 Silver Awards, 19 Bronze Awards and 16 Encouragement Awards) and 40 Beautiful Book Awards (5 Gold Awards, 7 Silver Awards, 11 Bronze Awards and 13 Encouragement Awards, 4 Beautiful Cover Awards). Of which, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, has 05 teachers and scientists receiving the 2013 Vietnam Good Book Award. We would like to respectfully introduce them to our readers.

1. “Thang Long Hanoi”(2 volumes) - Golden Prize for Good Books - Hanoi Publishing House 2012 - Editor: Prof. Dr. Phan Huy Le

The sacred and splendid Thang Long - Hanoi, the land that converges and crystallizes national cultural values, has long received the favor and attention of many generations of scientists and researchers in many fields. On the occasion of the capital's 1000th anniversary, with enthusiasm, love, and deep attachment to this thousand-year-old cultural space, with tireless research, Professor, People's Teacher Phan Huy Le and a large team of scientists have organized research and compiled the set "History of Thang Long - Hanoi”with the desire to bring a systematic, comprehensive and profound view of Thang Long - Hanoi. 2. “Vietnam's intellectual resources - History, current status and prospects”- Silver Prize for Good Book - National Political Publishing House, 2012 - Editor: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh

Historically, Vietnam's intellectual resources have been strongly inspired and promoted. The cause of building and defending the country of the Vietnamese people is closely linked to the promotion of the intellectual resources of the Vietnamese community, which have been nurtured and continued from generation to generation and have become invaluable assets in the past, present and future. In the current trend of developing a knowledge-based economy and international integration, the promotion of Vietnam's intellectual resources has been and is an objective and urgent requirement.

In order to provide readers with an overall picture and the situation, current status and prospects of Vietnam's intellectual resources, a group of scientists, of which Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh is the editor-in-chief, has compiled the book "Vietnam's Intellectual Resources - History, Current Status and Prospects".Through a rich source of documents that have been carefully selected, with scientific and concise arguments, the authors have focused on evaluating Vietnam's intellectual resources throughout history, analyzing the process of building and promoting these resources, thereby proposing solutions and recommendations and policies for the Party and State, in order to develop Vietnam's intellectual resources, practically serving the cause of industrialization, modernization and national development in the 21st century.

3. "Methodology and methods of language research"- Bronze Prize for Good Book - Vietnam Education Publishing House, 2012 - Author: Professor, People's Teacher Nguyen Thien Giap

The book consists of 02 main parts, respectively presenting the following contents: Methodology of the Geneva school, methodology of the Prague school, methodology of the Copenhagen school, methodology of the American structuralist school, methodology of the London school, methodology of generative linguistics, methodology of cognitive linguistics and methodology of anthropological linguistics, method of external explanation... Each linguistic school is identified and considered under three bases:(i) General introduction, (ii) Basic theory and (iii) Philosophical basis.

4. "Vietnamese Literature from the 10th to the 19th Century"- Bronze Prize for Good Book - Vietnam Education Publishing House, 2012 - Author: Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Nho Thin

“Vietnamese literature from the 10th century to the end of the 19th century"shows the distinct characteristics of medieval literature from the divergence of space, periods, literary movements to typical, representative factors in each period. This is the opening period of Vietnamese written literature.

The book provides a systematic, objective, scientific but also very profound view. This book is for all those who love traditional national literature, as well as those interested in studying ancient and medieval literature.

5. "Structural variation of Vietnamese Nom characters"- Encouragement Prize for Good Book - Hanoi National University Publishing House, 2012 - Author: Dr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong

The book deals with the issue of structural variation of Vietnamese Nom characters through data from the group of "phonetic interpretation" and "interpretation" texts.Book of Poetrywith a definite date, more than a hundred years apart, to address one of the fundamental issues in Nom script research, which is the issue of the evolution (or change) of Nom script structure over time. From the scientific idea, the practical implementation as well as the supporting data, it has been shown that this is a scientific monograph in perception, in implementation and in presentation techniques, which is not always easy to obtain.

The book is a serious scientific work, with scientific value in affirming the trends of preservation and transformation (distance) of Nom script over time to perform the function of a writing system to record the national phonetics and national language of the Vietnamese people. During the process of circulation, on the one hand, Nom script has fulfilled its writing function well, thanks to its inherent ability to preserve, stabilize and unify. On the other hand, it also has the ability to adjust in the way that the Nom script allows to adapt to changes in the phonetics of Vietnamese.

The book is also valuable in providing Nom documents on the tradition of translating authoritative Confucian classics into Vietnamese - the caseBook of Poetry, and also contributed much to the study of traditional linguistics based on textual data, correcting regrettable mistakes in the understanding of the academic world about the tradition of phonetic interpretation.Book of Poetry.

The book contributes to helping scholars see the unity in diversity of the East Asian literature in history. Scholars will have another book, a work that concretizes the “Vietnamese color” in the picture of East Asian literature.
