In the context of Vietnam's economic reforms, this research focuses on describing, analyzing, and explaining urbanization, industrialization, and their impacts on the livelihood changes of farming households in the suburban areas of Hanoi. To achieve the research objectives, the author used a sustainable livelihood framework combined with a spatial approach to analyze and explain the processes of industrialization and urbanization, particularly the reclamation of agricultural land use rights and their effects on the livelihood changes of farmers in the suburban areas of Hanoi.

Based on in-depth research conducted in two suburban villages of Hanoi as specific case studies, the author vividly reflects the reality of urbanization and industrialization and their impacts on changes in farmers' livelihoods. Simultaneously, the author analyzes and compares the opportunities and challenges of industrialization and urbanization for the livelihoods and lives of farmers in the research area in particular and in suburban areas in general.

The theoretical and practical knowledge mentioned above forms the basis for the author to share some policy suggestions, hoping to contribute to the more sustainable livelihoods and lives of farmers whose agricultural land use rights have been confiscated for urban and industrial development projects.
