1. University of Social Sciences and Humanities received the First Class Labor Medal for the second time on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of tradition and 20th anniversary of establishment.
On October 6, 2015, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Letters and the 20th anniversary of the University's establishment at the National Convention Center. On behalf of the Party and the Government, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam awarded the First Class Labor Medal to the University for the second time in recognition of the University's contributions to the development of the country.

Over the past 70 years, hundreds of groups and individuals in the School have received medals of all ranks, thousands of groups and individuals have received emulation titles and awards from sectors and levels from central to provincial, city and Hanoi National University. 10 teachers of the School have been awardedHo Chi Minh Prize, 14 teachers receivedState Prize for Science and Technology; 25 teachers were awarded the titlePeople's Teacher, 56 teachers were awarded the titleExcellent Teacher. 2. Appoint Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Minh as Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities
On December 23, 2015, the President of VNU signed Decision No. 5168/QD-VNU on appointing Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to hold the position of Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for the 2016-2020 term.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Minh (born in 1962) has a BA in World History from Kuban State University (former Soviet Union), a MA (University of Passau) and a PhD in Southeast Asian History (Humboldt University, Federal Republic of Germany). The goal of the School in this term is to continue to build the School into an advanced research university in the top 100 universities in Asia, taking liberalism as its core value, taking the building of a friendly, open, and service-oriented working environment as its core task to maximize the capacity of each individual. In that spirit, the School also defines the School's motto as: "Cherish the past, embrace the future” (Honoring the Past, embracing the Future).
3. US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken visits and talks with students of the School
On April 21, 2016, US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited and delivered a speech to the faculty and students of the University. His speech highlighted the role of the younger generation; of promoting innovation and creativity in each country and affirmed the important values in Vietnam - US cooperation. The visit of the US Deputy Secretary of State was part of the historic visit of US President Barack Obama to Vietnam in May 2016.
After the talk by Deputy Secretary Antony Blinken, female student Tran My Linh, a third-year student of the School of Linguistics, was honored to be chosen as the representative of Vietnamese youth to present flowers to President Barack Obama at Noi Bai airport when he just landed during his official visit to Vietnam.
4. 05 scientific works won awards at VNU level

In the past year, five scientific works of the University's staff received the Outstanding Scientific Work Award of VNU in the period 2011-2015, including: "The development of Vietnamese vocabulary meaning from 1945 to 2005" by Prof. Dr. Le Quang Thiem (VNU Publishing House, 2014); "Nguyen Hai Ke with Vietnamese History and Culture" compiled by the Department of Cultural Studies and History of Vietnamese Culture, Faculty of History; "Foreign activities on Thang Long - Hanoi" by a group of authors led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Hang (editor-in-chief) (Hanoi Publishing House, 2010); "Religious policy and the rule of law state" by Prof. Dr. Do Quang Hung (VNU Publishing House, 2014); Cluster of international publications 2010-2014 on the topic "International relations and foreign policy of Vietnam" by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh.
5. Establishment of the Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities
After many years of preparation, on May 11, 2015, the Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University was officially granted an operating license number 155/GP-BVHTT by the Ministry of Information and Communications with the international standard code ISSN 2354-1772. Currently, the Journal is allowed to publish 6 issues per year (including 2 issues in English) with a maximum of 200 pages. The Editorial Board of the Journal consists of prestigious domestic and international scientists, including 06 foreign scholars from Canada, the Netherlands, the US, Australia, and Japan. The Journal is the place to publish the latest scientific research in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities by scientists inside and outside the University, aiming to quickly rise to par with the leading prestigious journals in the region and the world. The establishment of the Journal will contribute to promoting scientific research activities and publishing scientific research of the School in the coming time.
6. 09 scientific works published in journals in the ISI and Scopus systems
In the 2015-2016 academic year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities awarded 40 authors with scientific works published in international journals, including 09 works published in journals in the ISI and Scopus systems. If in 2010, the University only had 07 international publications, in recent years, the number of international publications of the University has increased rapidly, showing a positive change in awareness among staff. The University's timely incentive and reward policies have also contributed to making international publications a regular activity, promoting the integration of the University with the region and the world.
7. Establish a number of new training and research units

Recently, the University has decided to establish a number of additional faculties, departments and centers as follows: Faculty of Anthropology; Department of Religious Studies under the University and for the first time enrolling undergraduate students in Religious Studies; Center for Seas and Islands under the University, Center for Applied Research and Development of Social Work under the Faculty of Sociology, Department of Public Policy under the Faculty of Management Sciences... These new units will contribute to diversifying the training and research fields of the University, increasingly better meeting the social needs and development requirements of the University in the new period.
8. Pushtraining quality assessment
Closing session of the External Evaluation at Program Level by the ASEAN University Network (AUN-QA) for the Bachelor of Oriental Studies program of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities
From October 14 to 16, 2015, the external assessment team of the ASEAN University Network (AUN) conducted an assessment of the bachelor's program in Oriental Studies. This is the second training program of the University (after the Linguistics training program) to be accredited according to AUN standards. Then, from December 1 to 4, 2015, the University worked with the external assessment team of the Center for Education Quality Assessment, VNU-HCM to implement a quality assessment program at the educational institution level according to the Ministry of Education and Training's quality assessment standards. In addition, in the past year, the University also organized peer-to-peer quality assessment of high-quality bachelor's training programs in the fields of Management Science, Philosophy and Literature. With these activities, the training quality assessment at the University has made new progress, affirming the important role of this work in improving the training quality of the University.
9. Awarding an Honorary Doctorate to Professor Gilbert de Terssac
Authorized by the Board of Directors of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, on March 3, 2016, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held an Honorary Doctorate Award Ceremony for Professor Gilbert de Terssac (French nationality) of Toulouse 2 University – Jean-Jaurès (Republic of France).

Professor Gilbert de Terssac - former Director of the Center for Management, Organization, Labor and Power Studies (CERTOP) - a prestigious research unit under the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), is the person who advocates research to support the transformation of Vietnamese society and is a bridge between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities Hanoi, Toulouse 2 University - Jean Jaurès, the Francophone University Agency, Téluq University, Canada... in identifying, designing and implementing mixed research programs to develop the community and publishing international publications related to Vietnamese studies. In particular, two outstanding results are the construction of the Cultural and Tourism House in Moc Chau, Son La, inaugurated in June 2014 and the bookVietnam in transitionprinted in France. He was also the first person to design an applied Master's program in Sociology for Vietnam.
10.Humanities students shine at international events
Last year, the school's youth participated in the Young Parliament project. The project was organized by the Office of the National Assembly in collaboration with the British Embassy and the British Council in Vietnam. The project helps young people learn the knowledge and skills needed to work in the National Assembly; organizes simulated sessions like those of the National Assembly for young people to exchange and discuss a number of policy issues of current concern. Surpassing hundreds of candidates from many other universities, student Dang Trung Anh (K58CLC, Faculty of Management Science) was honored to be selected as one of the 8 best students, to visit the UK and learn from the experience of the British Parliament for 10 days.
From November 23 to November 29, 2015, a delegation of 5 lecturers and 40 students of the School attended the Chinese Language Camp organized by Guangxi University (China). Nguyen Thi Viet My (K59 student majoring in Chinese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies) won the first prize in the Chinese speech contest.

From August 14-21, 2016, Guangxi University (China) organized the Cooperation for the Advancement of the Mekong River Region (YICMG) competition with the participation of 14 student teams from universities in the region such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, China, Myanmar... The student team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, including 03 students from the Faculty of International Studies (Nguyen Tran Thai Nam - K58; Nguyen Thuy Linh and Nguyen Lam Chi - K59) was one of three student teams from Vietnam participating in the competition. With the project "Building an eco-tourism area in the Mekong River region", the team won the first prize in the competition to build a project to develop the Mekong River region.
