Book introduction: "Globalization and Urban Change in Contemporary Vietnam" and the book "Globalization, Modernity and Urban Change in Asian Cities"

In the process of modernization, globalization and international integration, in Vietnam as well as in Asian countries, we have been witnessing important changes in many aspects in both rural and urban areas. In that context, placing urban areas in relation to rural areas, connecting the local with the global, the present with the past, the study and explanation of urban changes in Vietnam and Asian countries are both scientifically and practically meaningful, and require a collaborative, integrated, interdisciplinary and especiallycommitmentandjoin inof social sciences and humanities.

The bookGlobalization and urban transformation in contemporary Vietnamand the bookGlobalization, Modernity and Urban Change in Asia Citiesedited by Pham Quang Minh, Nguyen Van Suu, Ien Ang, Gay Hawkins, published by Tri Thuc Publishing House in 2016, includes articles by Vietnamese and foreign scientists analyzing and explaining urban change in different aspects, from population change and migration, livelihood change, religion, belief, daily cultural practices, to social and environmental changes. The articles aim to answer two major questions: How has urban change taken place in different spatial and temporal contexts in Vietnam and Asia? What voice and contribution can the social sciences and humanities have to urban research and urban change?
