SummaryThe report analyzes several issues as follows: (1) The necessity of connecting written historical sources with archaeological sources in studying the transitional period from prehistory to history. In Southeast Asia, historians often build models while archaeologists excavate to find material sources to examine and prove those models. However, research shows that many new archaeological sources have not been updated by historians, and archaeologists in most cases have only stopped at the level of collecting and publishing materials; (2) New Archaeology and some approaches; and (3) Application of some theories and methods of New Archaeology in studying the social structure of prehistory and the transition from prehistory to history in Central Vietnam.
