Time: from 8:00 AM on June 14, 2024
Location: Army Hotel, 1A Nguyen Tri Phuong Street, Quan Thanh Ward, Hoan Kiem District, HanoiCurrently, the country has 6 major multimedia press agencies, 127 newspapers, 670 magazines; and 72 radio and television stations. Although they differ in type, most press agencies are experiencing a decline in revenue, especially television stations and press agencies that are completely financially independent.
This difficulty stems partly from the fact that domestic media outlets are facing competition from social media platforms for advertising, media coverage, and readership. Businesses are also cutting advertising and media spending, especially in recent years. In addition, the state's resources and mechanisms for commissioning journalistic work are limited, and copyright infringement has not been thoroughly addressed.
According to Associate Professor Bui Chi Trung, Deputy Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training: “The development of the economics of journalism and communication should not only be viewed from the perspective of a few specific cases, from a single field or type, but should be considered on a comprehensive, strategic, and holistic scale of the national press system, linked to the context of the strong development of the digital economy today. From there, we can achieve breakthroughs to effectively fulfill the role and function of revolutionary journalism, and the professional and humane Vietnamese media system.”
To analyze and clarify the above issue, the Journal of Information and Communication, Vietnamnet online newspaper (Ministry of Information and Communication) in collaboration with the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) organized an international conference: “
The economics of Vietnamese media and journalism in the context of digital economic development."
The workshop is part of the annual event of the Vietnamese press community called "JUNE PRESS FORUM" - the third edition (2024), co-organized by the Information and Communication Magazine, Vietnamnet online newspaper (Ministry of Information and Communications) and the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training (University of Social Sciences and Humanities).
