This morning, September 5th, 2010, more than 1,200 new students of the K55 cohort gathered at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to complete their enrollment procedures.Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu - Head of the Political and Student Affairs Department - said: "The total number of students who received summonses is 1,351, and today 1,261 students came to enroll. The remaining students will enroll later due to missing documents or illness."
Going to enroll at dawn.
From 6 a.m. onwards, many new students and their parents, along with their belongings prepared for student life, gathered in front of the school gate. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen (Quang Ninh), parent of student Nguyen Thi Huyen Thu (Faculty of Literature), shared: “Since hearing the news that my daughter got into university, I've been nervous. Last night, my daughter and I stayed up all night, unable to sleep. We woke up early to prepare her things for enrollment. At 3 a.m., we took a bus from Quang Ninh to the school to enroll.” Excitement, bewilderment, joy, and pride were clearly visible on the faces of each new student. With the enthusiastic assistance of teachers and student volunteers, the new students completed the enrollment procedures quickly and smoothly. Dang Phuong Hanh (Faculty of Management Science) shared: “The first day of school, although very lively, still felt strange to me. However, the student volunteers were very friendly and guided me through the enrollment process attentively.” Sharing her difficulties and uncertainties on the first day of school and her plans for the academic year, Hanh said: “I completed the enrollment procedures quickly, but because there were so many students, I had to wait a bit long to have my photo taken for my student ID card. For the new academic year, I'm looking into the entrance exam for the high-quality program. Since preparing for the university entrance exam, I haven't focused much on learning English. Therefore, I'm very worried about the entrance exam for the high-quality program.”
Starting university while also worrying about finding accommodation.
Accommodation is the biggest concern for most new students, as they arrive in the capital from different regions to study in a new and different environment. While waiting for her grandchild to complete the enrollment procedures, Ms. Ha Thi Luong (from Ha Tinh) took the opportunity to inquire about dormitory accommodation, hoping that tomorrow, once the housing situation for students under the policy is resolved, she can quickly register her grandchild for a spot.

The number of dormitory rooms is quite limited, with only 250 available, so it cannot meet the needs of all students. Many students arrived in Hanoi several days in advance to find accommodation. Nguyen Thi Hang (from Thai Binh province, a student in the Faculty of Literature) said: “I’ve been here for a few days. Luckily, I arrived early and found a room near the school.” On the first day of school, the new students were filled with excitement and pride, even though they knew that hidden within that excitement were also many worries and anxieties.

Tomorrow, September 6th, students of cohort 55 will begin their first week of student orientation before officially starting the new academic year.
