Vietnam is actively integrating internationally in various aspects of social life. In line with this trend, in the field of social science research, the integration and adherence to international research standards (citations, confidentiality, ensuring information accuracy, protecting the rights of stakeholders, etc.) need to be recognized and established. Most universities and research institutes in developed countries, notably the UK, the US, Australia, and New Zealand, have ethical review systems for research projects and topics related to society and human issues, requiring scientists to comply with established ethical standards. In Vietnam, however, social research currently does not formally apply ethical principles in the organization of research and the publication of research results. While some fields have addressed this aspect, they have yet to develop specific toolkits or establish clear requirements for all related research activities.

In response to this trend, a research group from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is undertaking a research project supported by the Nafosted Foundation from 2017-2019. The project aims to provide a general assessment of the current state of research ethics application in social sciences worldwide, the current situation regarding the application of research ethics in Vietnamese social sciences, and to propose directions for developing sets of research ethics standards suitable to the conditions and context in Vietnam. To achieve this overall goal, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities plans to organize a scientific conference entitled “Research Ethics in Vietnamese Social Sciences: Approaches and Implementation Possibilities” on December 21, 2018 (Friday).

The workshop focused on discussing the following main topics:

  • The scientific basis and practical application of research ethics in the social sciences: international experience and current challenges for Vietnam;
  • Ethical aspects in social science research models
  • Ethical aspects of research with specific target groups in social sciences.
  • Ethical aspects of sharing and publishing social science research results.
  • Experience and applicability of research ethics in specialized fields of Vietnamese social sciences.
  • Managing/monitoring research ethics in Vietnamese social science training and research institutions today: opportunities, barriers, and feasibility; ...

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, respectfully invites esteemed professors and scientists to participate in writing and submitting papers for the Conference (in Vietnamese), according to the following schedule:

  • Deadline for submitting article title, abstract (approximately 200 words), and keyword list (approximately 3-5 words): July 30, 2018

  • The Organizing Committee will announce the conference program before October 30, 2018.
