Vietnam is proactively integrating internationally in various aspects of social life. With that trend, in the current aspect of social science research, integration and compliance with international standards on research (citation, information confidentiality, ensuring information accuracy, protecting the rights of related parties, etc.) need to be identified and established. In most universities and research institutes in developed countries, typically the UK, the US, Australia, New Zealand, etc., there is a system of review of research ethics for research projects and research topics related to society and people, scientists must comply with a system of pre-established research ethics standards. In Vietnam, currently, social research has not yet applied ethical principles in the process of organizing research and publishing research results in an official manner. Some fields have addressed this aspect, but have not yet created specific toolkits and established clear requirements for all related research activities.
In response to that trend, the research team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has implemented a research project supported by the Nafosted Fund for the period 2017-2019, aiming to make a general assessment of the current situation of applying research ethics in social sciences in the world, the current situation of applying aspects related to research ethics in social sciences in Vietnam, and proposing orientations for developing sets of research ethics standards suitable to the current conditions and contexts in Vietnam. To achieve that common goal, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities plans to organize a scientific workshop on “Research ethics in social sciences in Vietnam: Approaches and implementation possibilities” on December 21, 2018 (Friday).
The workshop focused on discussing the following main contents:
- Scientific basis and practice of applying research ethics in the field of social sciences: international experience and current issues for Vietnam;

- Ethical aspects of research with specific populations in the social sciences
- Ethical aspects in sharing and publishing social science research results
- Experience and ability to apply and deploy research ethics in specialized fields of Vietnamese social sciences
