Attending the ceremony were Comrade Tran Bach Hieu – Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Hanoi National University, Secretary of the University's Youth Union; Comrade Nguyen Thi Mai Lan – Deputy Secretary of the University's Youth Union, President of the University's Student Association; Comrade Tran Duc Hoa – Vice President of the University's Student Association; many outstanding alumni of the Green Summer movement; and over 100 student volunteers from various summer volunteer programs in 2015.
Taking place from July 12th to July 30th, over 100 student volunteers from the Youth Union and Student Association of various faculties and departments will be divided into 4 teams and travel to Van Tho and Hoang Nong communes (Dai Tu district, Thai Nguyen province) and Dung Liet and Yen Trung communes (Yen Phong district, Bac Ninh province). These are locations closely associated with the history and traditions of the university during the resistance war. In addition, there will be specialized teams such as the Campaign Reporter Team and the Thang Long - Hanoi Culture and History Propaganda Team.
A unique aspect of the 2015 "Green Summer" campaign was the destination chosen by the volunteers. Celebrating 70 years of tradition and 20 years since the university's founding, it was no coincidence that the Youth Union and Student Association of the university chose Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen as the places where the young people of the Faculty of Humanities could contribute… These were places where many students from the Faculty of Humanities evacuated from bomb-ridden Hanoi, places where their ancestors took refuge from bombs to study and research, and now, these same students are returning to contribute their youthful energy, creativity, and enthusiasm. Therefore, this trip can be seen as a "return to the roots" – a tribute to these localities.
During their volunteer activities, the volunteer teams will coordinate with local youth volunteers to carry out activities such as: environmental sanitation and improvement, organizing cultural and artistic activities, summer activities for teenagers and children, visiting and giving gifts to children in difficult circumstances, and writing articles, reporting news, and collecting photo data about the volunteer youth in their blue shirts throughout the mountains and forests.
"Youthful energy" perfectly describes the atmosphere of the 2015 "Green Summer" campaign launch ceremony. While the volunteer models were far removed from the usual pattern, Thai Nguyen and Bac Ninh held significant meaning for every humanities student in general and the volunteers in particular. This summer, these volunteers, representing the youth and enthusiasm of the humanities, dedicated themselves to contributing meaningfully to these regions rich in long-standing traditions. Let's wish these passionate individuals will maintain their smiles today as they gather to conclude their 20-day volunteer campaign, a journey fraught with challenges.
We – the Green Summer 2015 volunteers – are truly ready!
