The conference was organized with the aim of providing an opportunity for domestic and international scientists to meet, exchange research and teaching content in linguistics, and present their new research results. It also served as a good opportunity to develop cooperative relationships in research and teaching of language and culture between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and universities in the region and around the world. The conference is a highlight marking the development of the field of Linguistics in general and the Department of Linguistics in particular.

In his opening remarks at the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University) emphasized the importance and attractiveness of linguistics as a science that is both academic and profoundly practical. This is demonstrated by the impressive figures of the Faculty of Linguistics, a leading unit of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. By 2015, the Faculty of Linguistics had trained over 1500 bachelors, over 400 masters, and 130 doctoral graduates in Linguistics, Vietnamese Linguistics, and the languages and cultures of ethnic minorities in Vietnam. Currently, if 800-1000 students come to study short courses at the University each year, the Faculty of Linguistics contributes half – approximately 500 students. Therefore, the field of linguistics is also attractive in terms of training and serving the country's international integration requirements. The Vice Rector also extended his best wishes to all faculty members, lecturers, and students of the Faculty on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of Hanoi University and the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Linguistics.
