On the morning of November 15, 2011, the Sejong Korean Language Center in Hanoi – Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Hanoi – held its inauguration ceremony and received the appointment decision for its leadership personnel. Attending the ceremony were Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh – Rector of the University, and Professor Chung Hae Lin – President of Pusan University of Foreign Studies, South Korea.With the support of the Korean Ministry of Education, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Pusan University of Foreign Studies decided to establish the Sejong Korean Language Center in Hanoi, based on the HSK Korean Language and Studies Center, to cooperate in Korean language training and create opportunities for young Vietnamese people to continue their studies and seek employment in Korea or at Korean-affiliated institutions in Vietnam. On October 24, 2011, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh – Rector of the University – signed a decision appointing Associate Professor Dr. Pham Gia Lam as Director of the Sejong Korean Language Center in Hanoi.

The Sejong Korean Language Center in Hanoi, located at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, operates according to Korean national standards. All programs, curricula, exams, grading, and graduation certificates are handled by Pusan University. The Korean language certificate issued at the Sejong Korean Language Center in Hanoi is a national standard certificate and is valid for studying abroad and professional practice. At the launch ceremony of the Sejong Korean Language Center in Hanoi, leaders from both universities discussed several aspects of future cooperation: continued exchange of lecturers and students, and joint organization of Korean language training at the Sejong Korean Language Center in Hanoi. Professor Nguyen Van Khanh stated that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is ready to accept Vietnamese Studies students from Pusan University of Foreign Studies to study at the university through various means. Simultaneously, the university will also send lecturers to teach Vietnamese at Pusan University of Foreign Studies as part of the cooperation plan.

On November 26, 2009, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Pusan University of Foreign Studies officially signed a cooperation agreement. On April 27, 2011, the two universities further signed a student exchange agreement. In September 2011, they collaborated to establish the Sejong Korean Language Center in Hanoi. Professor Chung Hae Lin, President of Pusan University of Foreign Studies, expressed his hope that the cooperative relationship between the two universities would develop even more strongly. Professor Chung Hae Lin emphasized that the collaboration to establish the Sejong Korean Language Center in Hanoi would promote and elevate the cooperative relationship between the two universities in particular, and the two countries in general, to a new level.
