Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Principal of University of Social Sciences and Humanities)
The conference was attended by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), Mr. Le Tat Chien (Deputy Director of the Center for Research, Training and Support, Consulting, Department of Intellectual Property).
This year's conference attracted more than 30 scientific reports from students from 6 units: University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU), Hanoi Law University, National Economics University, Foreign Trade University, University of Law (Hue University) and new member, Vietnam Women's Academy.
Mr. Le Tat Chien (Deputy Director of Research, Training and Support Center, Consulting, Department of Intellectual Property)
Students who participated in the scientific research report were assessed as having demonstrated their courage, confidence, understanding of the research content and presented the problem coherently and clearly. With the principle of “Students are the masters”, after each presentation there was a debate, question and answer session between students. The research results showed the ability to think, work independently, and serious investment in the topic of the student groups.
The conference is an activity that demonstrates the connection between research activities and training activities; thereby not only encouraging the creativity and learning ability of students but also positively affecting the effectiveness of training, especially in the field of Intellectual Property (IP) - a topical field in Vietnam today. The conference is also an opportunity to connect scientists, students, lecturers, and businesses interested in IP, aiming to improve the effectiveness of IP protection and enforcement in Vietnam in the context of international economic integration.

Some sharing from teachers and students after the Conference:
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Principal of University of Social Sciences and Humanities): The workshop is an opportunity for young people interested in intellectual property to connect with each other.
This year's Conference on Intellectual Property of Vietnamese Students addresses many issues with many different approaches in the field of intellectual property, especially the direction of applied research on exploiting patent information to serve the needs of businesses, intellectual property issues associated with international economic integration. The young people here are the core factors for the future of the Vietnamese intellectual property industry. They bring the spirit of youth, of learning, of intelligence to address and solve a major problem that our country has been and is facing in the current period of deep integration.
The conference is not only an opportunity for students to share their views, knowledge and understanding of IP, but it is also an academic forum connecting students in the community interested in IP and potentially collaborating and implementing IP projects in the future.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Hai (Head of Intellectual Property Department, Faculty of Management Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities): Internet and Startups are the highlights of this year's conference.
The topic related to Internet and Entrepreneurship is the highlight of this year’s conference. The students have grasped the “hot” issues in today’s society and reflected on them, applying them to their learning and research activities. It can be seen that they know how to apply their knowledge into practice and know how to use learning theory to explain social problems.
Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh (Hanoi Law University), First Prize of the 2019 Intellectual Property Student Research Competition: Finding the answer to a research problem is the most wonderful thing
Introduced by our teacher at school about the conference, our group registered to participate and chose to research the issue of e-commerce activities which are currently developing rapidly. The birth of e-commerce has contributed to revolutionizing business activities and consumption habits. Not only young people but also middle-aged people have started to shop online. That has led to the requirement for a legal framework for this activity to be adjusted appropriately. However, e-commerce also faces many barriers in development. Many subjects have taken advantage of loopholes in control, taking advantage of this space to infringe on trademark rights, causing direct damage to intellectual property owners and consumers. Seeing friends and relatives being cheated many times due to copyright infringement of trademarks is the motivation for us to choose this topic.
Student Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh (far right)
It was also very difficult for the group because this was a very new topic. Scientific research on e-commerce, especially trademark infringement on e-commerce platforms, is still too little, so the group did not have many documents to refer to. Completing the research, the process of researching and finding answers to the problems that we raised in the research was the most wonderful thing for the group. Coming to the Workshop, our group had more opportunities to meet and exchange with friends from other schools who were also interested in this topic. The comments and questions from the friends and the jury opened up many new perspectives on IP for us.
Vu Thi Nga (University of Social Sciences and Humanities), Application Prize and Third Prize of Student Research on Intellectual Property 2019: Research survey combined with charity work
To conduct the survey, I had to go to Den Thang village (Seo My Ty - Sa Pa - Lao Cai) and Ta Phin village (Ta Phin - Sa Pa - Lao Cai). Although it was very difficult, this was also the most interesting experience in the process of pursuing my topic.
The actual road was extremely difficult, full of jagged rocks and located very deep in the valley. No phone signal, no wifi network for a student like me was really strange. In return, the local people were very enthusiastic, cheerful, even cooked salmon rice and local vegetables for me to eat. My survey trip to Sa Pa was also a personal charity trip to help ethnic children in Sa Pa. I brought sandals, old clothes and candy from Sa Pa town to Den Thang village - the most remote and difficult village in Sa Pa district for the children.

Coming to Sa Pa, I learned about cardamom - a medicinal and food plant that brings great economic value to the people of the Sa Pa mountainous region. The potential of cardamom is huge. However, the cultivation method, drying and preserving process of the people still reveal many limitations. Most people only dry cardamom in the sun. Households that use the drying method help promote the process of removing water from cardamom by building huts and burning firewood right on the field. However, the amount of firewood consumed is very large. To get 1 quintal of dried cardamom, it takes at least 2 cubic meters of wood. After drying, the cardamom is crispy, the color and flavor are all reduced, and the fruit is fragile. After drying, people pack it in bags and put it in the kitchen to take advantage of the kitchen smoke to limit termites and insects. However, if stored for a long time, termites will still appear. That is the reason, a relatively large barrier hindering the export of cardamom to other countries in the region and the world and causing damage to the economy of the local people.
My research provides a solution to increase the shelf life of cardamom, limit the loss of mass, and preserve the color and flavor of cardamom. It is the application of an invention whose Intellectual Property registration has expired and has become a common property of society.
Nguyen Thi Thuong (University of Law, Hue University), Application Award and Encouragement Award for Research on Intellectual Property: Research on preserving Vinh oranges is a memorable experience
The conference gave us very interesting memories. To find the most perfect formula for preserving oranges, the group coordinated with the Institute of Science and Technology Research, under Hue University to conduct experiments. Researching fruit trees with the Institute is usually done by Agriculture and Forestry students, now it is also Law students, it is truly a new and exciting experience.
Student Nguyen Thi Thuong (second from left)
Canh oranges are a crop that brings high economic efficiency to farmers in areas such as Ha Giang, Hoa Binh and especially Nghe An province - one of the cradles of the highest quality orange production in the country. Vinh oranges have a lemon yellow color mixed with green, not orange yellow, the fruit is round and juicy. However, after harvesting, with the traditional preservation method of covering with tarps, burying in sand... the fruit quickly deteriorates, easily rotten, waterlogged, unevenly ripened, difficult to control, affecting the quality as well as the yield after harvest. Families, businesses, and farms all need a solution to preserve oranges that overcomes the above disadvantages.
The solution the group of authors proposed was to use an invention whose Intellectual Property registration in Vietnam had expired to preserve oranges. With the support of the Institute of Science and Technology Research, the group had to conduct many experiments to find the most optimal formula specifically for Vinh oranges. Hopefully, the research presented at the conference will receive attention from organizations and businesses, supporting the application of the research into practice, bringing economic benefits to farmers and businesses.
