The sessions were led by two guest speakers: Etienne Mahler and Leonie Salzmann – two German postgraduate students studying and working at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – VNU Hanoi. This is a useful course, aiming to provide students with the opportunity to learn and practice scientific writing using methods and international standards applied by many universities around the world.

Academic writing is an extremely important skill for students, especially those interested in scientific research and academic activities. However, writing skills often pose a challenge for many Vietnamese students when writing essays in English. Therefore, this seminar is organized to help students not only better understand the theory of academic writing and its importance but also apply it to their studies through practical exercises.

The discussions at the seminar revolved around the following topics: What is academic writing and why is it so necessary? How to identify research questions and structure a scientific paper? What are the criteria for an academic paper? How to cite sources in academic texts? How to format citations in writing? In addition, the two speakers introduced students to some useful reference management software for essay writing and research.

Under the guidance of Leonie Salzmann and Etienne Mahler, the students engaged in positive discussions about constructing a complete academic paper. Furthermore, this was a great opportunity for students to improve their English skills in communication and academic research.

The Academic Writing Workshop is a valuable event within a series of activities organized by CASA to support students in equipping and enhancing the necessary skills for self-development and academic and research activities. This is also the first Academic Writing course planned and implemented by CASA's student collaborators.
