On June 16, 2011, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Rector of the University - signed a decision promulgating the Charter of the Phan Huu Dat Award Fund and establishing the Executive Board of the Phan Huu Dat Award Fund.Accordingly, the Executive Board of the Phan Huu Dat Award Fund consists of the following members:
- Vice Rector in charge of Training - Head of Committee
- Head of the Anthropology Department - Deputy Head of the Board
- Assistant Training Officer, Department of Anthropology - Standing Committee Member
- Representative of the Head of the Postgraduate Training Department - Member
- Representative of the Head of the Political and Student Affairs Department - Member
The Phan Huu Dat Award Fund was established based on a voluntary contribution of VND 100,000,000 from Professor Phan Huu Dat to the Department of Anthropology to encourage students and trainees of the Department of Anthropology to strive for academic excellence. The criteria for awarding the prize are: Vietnamese citizens currently studying at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities – VNU Hanoi, with the following standards: possessing good political and social ethics, adhering to regulations, and actively participating in class, Youth Union, and Student Association activities. Undergraduate students must have an overall academic average of "excellent" or higher based on their first exam score; postgraduate students must have achieved an "excellent" rating in their thesis/dissertation defense. Students and trainees who have participated in scientific research and received awards at the university level or higher, or whose research papers have been published in specialized scientific journals, are also eligible. The Phan Huu Dat Award Fund conducts the award selection process annually. Each undergraduate and graduate student at the University is only eligible to receive the Phan Huu Dat Award once. Eligible students can apply themselves or be nominated by their class. Student applications or class letters must be reviewed by the Head of the Anthropology Department. Graduate students are nominated by the Fund's Executive Board based on their academic performance and thesis/dissertation defense each year. The Phan Huu Dat Award Fund's Executive Board sets the annual award amount based on the savings interest of the Fund's funds, but not exceeding 5,000,000 VND. Funding for the award ceremony is taken from the savings interest, but not exceeding 1,000,000 VND per year. All regulations related to this matter must be approved by at least two-thirds of the members of the Fund's Executive Board. On June 16th, Professor Phan Huu Dat, People's Teacher, donated all the contributed funds to the Phan Huu Dat Award Fund. On behalf of the University's leadership, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu extended his sincere thanks to Professor Phan Huu Dat. The Vice Rector affirmed that the University and the Management Board will operate the Fund effectively and in accordance with its regulations. Professor Phan Huu Dat expressed his confidence that the University will use and develop the Fund effectively, contributing to helping students and trainees of the Anthropology Department develop their intellect. This is one of Professor Phan Huu Dat's heartfelt wishes. Previously, Professor Phan Huu Dat donated a collection of books, newspapers, and reference materials from his personal collection to the Anthropology Department. Professor Phan Huu Dat was formerly the Head of the History Department - Hanoi University, Rector of Hanoi University, and Head of the Ethnology Department - History Department, Hanoi University. Professor Phan Huu Dat also held many positions such as: Member of the National Council for the compilation of the Vietnamese Encyclopedia; Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Vietnamese Encyclopedia (1997); Acting President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, President of the Vietnam Ethnology Association (1996 – 2001); Honorary Professor of Lomonosov University (1987).
