On the occasion of the 86th anniversary of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2011), the website of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities reviews noteworthy events and figures about the journalism profession and journalism training programs.
On the occasion of the 86th anniversary of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2011), the website of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities reviews noteworthy events and figures about the journalism profession and journalism training programs.On June 21, 1925, the first issue of Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper, founded by President Ho Chi Minh, was published in Guangzhou (China), marking the beginning of revolutionary journalism in Vietnam. June 21st is celebrated annually as the traditional day for Vietnamese journalists. As of March 2011, in the print media sector, the country had 745 media outlets with 1003 publications. In the radio and television sector, the country had 67 stations, including 3 central radio and television stations (VTV, VTC, VOV) and 64 local radio and television stations with 200 domestically produced television channels and 67 foreign channels (currently broadcast on pay-TV systems). In the field of electronic information, the country has 46 online newspapers and magazines, 287 online news sites of press agencies, and thousands of online news sites of Party, State, Government agencies, mass organizations, associations, and businesses, as well as one state-owned news agency, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA). As of March 2011, 17,000 journalists had been issued press cards out of hundreds of thousands of people working in the field of journalism and media nationwide. Training and research institutions in journalism and media include: the Academy of Journalism and Communication under the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration; the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. These two institutions offer bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in journalism and media; the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; and the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, University of Science - Hue University. These two institutions offer bachelor's degree programs. In addition to the four aforementioned undergraduate and postgraduate training institutions, there are also the Central College of Radio and Television 1 (Phu Ly) and Central College 2 (Ho Chi Minh City) under the Voice of Vietnam (VOV); and the Thuong Tin Television College - Hanoi under Vietnam Television (VTV). The Center for Journalism and Communication Professional Training, under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is currently the first model of its kind among journalism and communication training institutions. It performs the following functions: providing professional training for the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, producing media products, offering short-term certificate courses in English and Vietnamese, and disseminating information and promoting the image of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Vietnam National University, Hanoi. These training institutions play a crucial role in providing human resources for the country's journalism and communication sector in a professional and modern direction.
