Receive and work with Third Secretary, Embassy of Iran in Vietnam

On November 30, 2016, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU) had a meeting and worked with Mr. Mahdi Farazi, Third Secretary, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Vietnam. Also present was a representative of the Department of Cooperation and Development.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU) emphasized that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has a long-term cooperative relationship with the Embassy of Iran as well as a long history of training and research on Iran. The Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities has organized 04 photo exhibitions, 05 seminars, 05 books and 03 specialized magazines on Iran, 03 talks on the people and country of Iran, 04 Persian language courses, and has had 06 masters and 03 bachelors trained in Iran. The University wants to continue expanding relations with the Embassy of Iran and universities in Tehran.

In response, Mr. Mahdi Farazi thanked the USSH for its warm welcome. He said that the Iranian Embassy in Vietnam is always ready to help the University connect with Iranian universities, support the Dean in organizing international conferences, send lecturers and scholars from Iranian universities to attend conferences organized by the University, as well as launch short-term courses on Middle East and Southeast Asian studies.

Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh agreed with Mr. Mahdi Farazi’s proposals. In response, the Rector personally invited Mr. Mahdi Farazai to lecture at the University on international relations issues such as regional integration in the Middle East, the rise of China in the Middle East, etc. The Rector also invited him to participate and write a contribution to the 5th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies in December. The Department of Cooperation and Development will create the best conditions for the University to connect with the Embassy of Iran.

Mr. Mahdi Farazi is also a Research Fellow at the Middle East Institute for Strategic Studies. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the Institute of Humanities and Cultural Studies in Tehran. His main research interests are international relations in the Middle East and Chinese foreign policy. He has participated in numerous international conferences and published several articles in Persian, focusing on topics such as the rise of China in the Middle East, China and the Arab Spring, etc.
