In the common joy of the Faculty of Literature on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its founding and on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, allow me, on behalf of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, to warmly welcome distinguished guests, teachers; scientists, writers, theorists, literary and art critics, journalists, linguists... and all students, graduate students, and researchers who have come to attend the 60th Anniversary Celebration of the Faculty of Literature held today!
60 years ago, from the first structure of the Faculty of Literature and History, then the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Literature of Hanoi National University was established. Born in the extremely difficult conditions of a divided country and fierce war, lacking in many aspects of facilities, staff and documents for training and research, but with enthusiasm, affection and high responsibility for the profession, with the development of basic disciplines, many generations of scientists, teachers and students of the Faculty of Literature have made great sacrifices, made great efforts, worked scientifically and creatively to gradually build the reputation, research quality and training of a scientific collective, a leading center for research and training in Literature and Linguistics of the country.
Looking back on the 60-year journey of striving, building and developing, we see that, overcoming many challenges, the Faculty of Literature (with the maturity of the two faculties of Literature and Linguistics today) has made extremely important developments and achieved many great achievements in organization and staff work; developing the team; building and constantly perfecting training programs and excellent results in scientific research. Up to now, both the Faculty of Literature and Linguistics have built a relatively complete training structure including all three levels of education. Thanks to the rich amount of knowledge, theories, methods and skills that are constantly innovated and updated, along with the high sense of responsibility and enthusiasm of scientists and lecturers, the training quality of the Faculty of Literature and Linguistics has always been highly appreciated by society. The Faculty of Literature has created its own, outstanding, and unmistakable character and spirit.
From the training environment of the Faculty of Literature of the former Hanoi University of Science and the Faculty of Literature, Faculty of Linguistics of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi today, many lecturers and students have grown up and are currently holding important positions in agencies of the Party and the State. Many are leaders and leading experts of universities, institutes, academies, research centers, radio and television stations, press agencies, etc. The position and reputation of the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of Linguistics in training; the academic and scholarly quality but also rich in practicality in research works as well as training products are increasingly affirmed and honored by society.
Along with the achievements in training, in recent years, the Faculty of Linguistics and the Faculty of Literature have also been the leading units of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in building and implementing a system of research topics at all levels. The team of scientists and lecturers in the faculties have successfully implemented a number of research topics at the State, ministerial and Hanoi National University levels. The achieved results not only contribute to improving the quality of undergraduate and postgraduate training; developing the team but also contribute to creating scientific arguments, as a basis for proposing useful solutions and recommendations for the development of policies and strategies for socio-economic development, culture, literature - art and linguistics; protecting the sovereignty, territory and territorial waters of Vietnam and implementing action programs to preserve culture, language, and valuable assets of Vietnamese cultural heritage in the Central as well as in many localities. Noble titles and awards such asHo Chi Minh Prize, State PrizeThe achievements in science and technology that the collective as well as scientists of the Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Literature - Faculty of Linguistics were awarded by the Party, the State, and scientific agencies and organizations are invaluable heritages, the pride of the scientific collectives and of the School as a whole.
In international relations and cooperation, thanks to a fundamental and long-term vision, the Faculty of Linguistics as well as the Faculty of Literature have built a trustworthy relationship with many large academies and universities in Asia, Europe and the world. The international cooperation relationships that the faculties have built are bringing many good results for the work of training staff, academic exchange, absorbing new theories and methods, building and constantly perfecting the system of learning materials and training programs, and at the same time contributing to expanding the prestige and influence of the faculties in the professional community domestically and internationally.
Dear teachers and delegates,
Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Philology and the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Literature, the Faculty of Linguistics marks a very important milestone in the work of training, scientific research and domestic and international cooperation. This is an opportunity for us to look back at the achievements; analyze and accurately evaluate the situation, development trends and actual resources in the faculties to be determined to strive for development goals, contributing to the construction of Vietnamese culture, literature and linguistics, the goal of which is to build aLearning Society, Society of Knowledge and WisdomWith the knowledge and courage of a collective rich in intelligence and solidarity, the departments of Literature and Linguistics will certainly overcome obstacles to continue to achieve new achievements in the upcoming development journey.
The school believes in the steady steps, determination and perseverance of the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of Linguistics; of generations of managers, scientists, lecturers and generations of students... all of whom are looking towards the common roof of our Faculty of Literature, a place that is always rich in open-mindedness and creativity but also a place that is always warm with humanity. With the role, noble mission and social responsibility that has been and is being set for the departments of Literature, Han Nom Studies and Linguistics in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland as well as the cause of innovation and international integration of the country, our scientific collectives are forever proud of a fine tradition and at the same time more confident in the goals and development orientations in the coming period; constantly multiplying good values, arousingAcademic spirit,College SpiritandSublime humanityin thought and action.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Philology, the 20th anniversary of the Faculty of Linguistics and the Faculty of Literature, on behalf of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the School, allow me to express my gratitude to the heroes, martyrs, teachers, cadres and civil servants who have sacrificed and contributed to the longevity and development of the Faculty of Philology and the School. I would also like to sincerely thank the Ministry of Education and Training; Ministry of Science and Technology; Hanoi National University; Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and the Arts; Central Theory Council; Vietnam Writers' Association; Vietnam Journalists' Association; Vietnam Linguistics Association; Industries, provinces and localities, international organizations, managers, scientists, generations of leaders, managers, lecturers and students of the Faculty of Literature have devoted much attention and sincere, valuable and effective support to the development of the two faculties of Literature and Linguistics as well as to the School.
