Receiving the delegation of the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Education of China)

On December 1, 2016, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received a delegation from the Chinese Ministry of Education led by Mr. Phuong Quan (Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Chinese Ministry of Education).

At the meeting, Professor Pham Quang Minh briefly introduced the training and research programs of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities: The University has more than 70 years of establishment and development and is the leading university in Vietnam in the fields of social sciences and humanities. The University currently trains 10,000 students, has more than 500 staff, 16 faculties and departments. In addition to the traditional majors such as History, Literature, Languages, etc., the University also trains majors such as Journalism and Communication, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Political Science, Religious Studies, etc. The University currently has 23 undergraduate training programs and more than 60 postgraduate training programs. The University has been constantly expanding cooperative relationships with foreign partners to meet the requirements of integration and improve the quality of training according to international standards. The University has a rich system of research projects at many levels. Thanks to these studies, scientists of the School have made important contributions to advising the Government on developing policies on cultural and social development.

The school has signed 250 official cooperation documents with foreign universities, including many Chinese universities. Every year, the school receives about 300 Chinese students to study Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies. Up to now, the school has built educational cooperation relationships with nearly 50 Chinese universities such as: Guangxi University, Guangxi Nationalities University, Yunnan University, Yunnan Nationalities University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Foreign Trade ... and some schools in Beijing such as Tsinghua University, Peking University and Shanghai such as Fudan University, Shanghai University of Foreign Studies, East China Normal University .... In 2013, during his official visit to Vietnam, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang visited and spoke at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and since then, the Chinese Government has granted the school 10 full scholarships each year.

At the meeting, Mr. Phuong Quan shared his joy at visiting a famous university in Vietnam. He added that every year the Chinese Government grants Vietnam 150 full scholarships, 100 tuition-free scholarships, and many other scholarships through various programs such as the China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week held annually in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province. He expressed his hope that Vietnamese students can make effective use of these scholarship opportunities to study at Chinese universities.

Both sides emphasized the need to maintain good cooperative relations between the School and Chinese universities and agreed that education is an important pillar that will increasingly play an important role in enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries.

Also attending this meeting were some lecturers from the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Faculty of Literature - all of whom had studied for a PhD under a scholarship from the Chinese Government. The lecturers shared a lot of information and exchanged experiences as well as difficulties during their time studying abroad in China.
