The predecessor of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was the Faculty of Letters, established under Decree No. 45 signed by President Ho Chi Minh on October 10, 1945. The establishment of the Faculty of Letters 80 years ago demonstrated the vision of the Party and leader Ho Chi Minh on the importance of social sciences and humanities in the cause of national construction and defense of independence.
In early November 2025, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will solemnly celebrate its 80th anniversary (1945 - 2025) and 30 years of development within the structure of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (1995 - 2025). The celebration marks a glorious historical journey and opens a new development path for the University to continue affirming its position as a leading center for scientific research, creation and dissemination of knowledge in social sciences and humanities in the country, training high-quality human resources, providing policy advice, serving the community, serving society, making practical contributions to the development of the country in the new era of development.
On the journey of 80 years of tradition and 30 years of development - although under different names: Faculty of Arts (1945), Hanoi University of Science (1956), University of Social Sciences and Humanities (1995) - generations of cadres, civil servants, workers and students of the School have always strived to achieve many outstanding achievements, creating today's "Faculty of Arts - General Essence - Reputation of Humanities".
Upholding the philosophy of “Cultural - Modern - Liberal”, the School has trained tens of thousands of bachelors, masters, and doctors, many of whom later became leaders of the Party and State, leading scientists and industry leaders, and exemplary educators; the School’s graduates have spread out in all directions, contributing to the construction, development, and international integration of Vietnam.
Held on Vietnamese Teachers' Day, the Anniversary Ceremony will be an emotional reunion of generations of teachers and students, and a tribute to our predecessors and partners. The school respectfully invites generations of staff, employees, students and interested partners to attend the Anniversary Ceremony at the school campus (336 Nguyen Trai, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi) in early November 2025 (the specific time will be updated soon).
