The event not only welcomed new members but also affirmed the school's policy and strategy in nurturing, attracting, and utilizing talent, building a high-quality, dedicated, and internationally integrated team of faculty and staff.
Attracting and retaining talent – a key strategy for sustainable development.Speaking at the meeting, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized:
"Humanities are not only a place for nurturing knowledge and cultivating character, but also a fertile ground that provides the best conditions for each individual to develop their abilities, advance their careers, and assert themselves."Throughout its more than 80-year tradition and 30-year development, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has always considered human resource development as a key factor. The university aims to cultivate and attract scientific talent to form outstanding leading experts, a community of excellent and dedicated lecturers, and a team of skilled administrators and professional staff with a high spirit of service.
2024 was a breakthrough year in recruitment, attracting 12 lecturers with PhDs, including 3 Associate Professors, to work at the university. Personnel in all units underwent a comprehensive review, allocation of quotas, and priority was given to recruiting for difficult-to-fill and specialized positions. As of October 2025, the entire university will have 507 staff and lecturers, including 6 Professors, 57 Associate Professors, 280 PhD holders, and 156 Master's degree holders.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan shared this at a meeting with 40 newly recruited staff and lecturers joining the university.
The achievement of doctoral degree standards has exceeded the set target. Decree 50 significantly impacted the decline in the number of lecturers holding scientific titles; recruitment was intensified but could not keep pace with the mass retirement of highly qualified staff. With the decisive and close guidance of the Party Committee, the involvement of the government and the trade union, and the implementation of supportive policies and mechanisms, the university has successfully maintained a high-quality teaching staff, ranking among the best in the country, with 20.4% holding the titles of Professor or Associate Professor, and 81% holding doctoral degrees. The current staff development strategy has shifted from achieving degree standards to achieving academic rank standards in the 2025-2030 period.
These figures reflect the university's long-term vision and strong determination to standardize and improve the quality of its academic staff, aiming to build the University of Social Sciences and Humanities into a leading research and training center in the region.
High-quality human resources are the driving force for innovation and integration.Professor Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his delight that the university continues to attract many lecturers from universities and research institutes both domestically and internationally to work at the Faculty of Humanities. The Rector affirmed that attracting human resources is not just about numbers, but more importantly, about creating the most favorable environment for each individual to develop their abilities, creativity, and contributions.
Over the past period, the university has invited and welcomed more than 25 scientists and lecturers who had studied and worked abroad to return and teach. Many reputable scholars have been and are collaborating closely with the university, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge and elevating the level of Vietnamese social sciences and humanities research to the world.
The principal affirmed:
"The university expects young faculty members to successfully complete their scientific research tasks on time, uphold professional standards, proactively integrate internationally, and contribute to the university's overall mission."
Developing specialized fields and advancing the national mission. As an institution with a long-standing scientific tradition, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has a national mission to promote Vietnamese classical studies and cultural studies – a unique field with strategic significance in the preservation and development of the country's culture.
Currently, the university is the only institution in Vietnam that simultaneously provides in-depth training and research in the fields of classical studies, with leading disciplines such as Sino-Vietnamese studies, archaeology, ethnology, religious studies, cultural studies, and philosophy. Although there is still great potential for development, investment conditions are limited, resulting in outcomes that have not yet met the expectations of the Party and the State. Rector Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized that this is the time to have a correct understanding and take more decisive action to leverage this unique strength.
The school is focusing on developing a team of experts in archaeology and cultural studies in a way that is both specialized and interdisciplinary, linked to national needs for cultural research and preservation, and promoting research on Vietnamese history, culture, and ancient knowledge in the context of global integration.
Dr. Ngo Thi Kieu Oanh introduced the organizational structure, development orientation, and policies and regulations for staff and lecturers of the school.
