Associate Professor Hoang Minh Son received his PhD in Automation Engineering from Dresden University of Technology, Germany in 1998.
After earning his PhD, he worked as a lecturer at Hanoi University of Science and Technology from 2000, and was recognized as an Associate Professor in 2006. He has held various positions at Hanoi University of Science and Technology: Head of Training Department (2008); Vice Rector (2014); Party Secretary and Rector (2015); Party Secretary and Chairman of the University Council (August 2020).
In October 2020, Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Minh Son was appointed by the Prime Minister to the position of Deputy Minister of Education and Training.
Associate Professor Hoang Minh Son has made significant contributions to promoting innovation in higher education, improving the quality of training and university governance. With extensive experience as a lecturer and in management positions at the departmental, university, and ministerial levels, he has brought innovative thinking, strategic vision, and a modern approach to the management and development of higher education.
With his extensive experience in educational management and outstanding achievements during his time at Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education and Training, he is expected to continue leading Vietnam National University, Hanoi to strong development, affirming its position as a core training and research center of Vietnam and on par with leading educational institutions worldwide.
On the same day, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1889/QD-TTg, transferring and appointing Professor Dr. Le Quan, Chairman of the Council and Director of Hanoi National University, to the position of Deputy Minister of Education and Training.
