2020 Humanities Impressions Contest

In response to the 2020 Humanities Impression Contest launched by the University's Trade Union, the Faculty of Political Science composed the poem "The Ferryman's Profession" to express gratitude to those in the teaching profession.

In response to the 2020 Humanistic Impressions Contest launched by the University's Trade Union, the "poets" of the administrative staff showcased their creative talents and produced 7 outstanding and meaningful poems, reflecting the unique identity of their unit.

The Faculty of History is one of the two faculties initially established at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In 1945, when the Faculty of Literature in Hanoi was founded, the Faculty of History was one of the two faculties. In 1956, the University of Hanoi was established with only two departments: the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Literature. The Faculty of Literature consisted of two relatively independent sections, Literature and History, under the overall direction of Professor Tran Duc Thao. In 1956, the Faculty of Literature was divided into two faculties: the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of History. Since then, the Faculty of History has consistently been a leading center in Vietnam for training, research, and application of historical sciences.

With their advisory and support functions for the Board of Directors in implementing major development policies and directions, as well as operating the university effectively, the professional staff in the functional departments of the Board of Directors played a crucial role in USSH's outstanding achievements last year. Their dynamism, creativity, professionalism, and humanistic spirit were evident in many successes, including: the "Leaving Humanities Students Behind" campaign, innovation in university admissions, innovation in teaching methods towards the application of information technology, promotion of international publications, enhancement of staff capacity, building a culture of quality, and spreading the spirit of creativity and innovation.

In 1992, in response to the demands of national renewal in general and the need for high-quality tourism human resources in particular, the Tourism Geography major was established at Hanoi University. On October 21, 1995, shortly after the establishment of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the Director of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi signed a decision to establish the Faculty of Tourism Studies. As part of a research university, the Faculty of Tourism Studies defines its mission as leading the way in creating, disseminating knowledge, and training high-quality human resources in tourism, serving the cause of national construction and development.

To date, after 25 years of formation and development, the Faculty's position in society is increasingly being affirmed. The Faculty of Oriental Studies has successfully fulfilled its initial mission and tasks, helping to realize the dreams of 28 cohorts (from K38 to K65) with thousands of undergraduate students, dozens of master's and doctoral graduates, leaving their mark on the path to success both domestically and internationally.

My return to the Faculty of Journalism (Hanoi University), now the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training (University of Social Sciences and Humanities), was a stroke of luck, a fortunate opportunity that I will always remember and cherish.

In 1990, the Faculty of Journalism (now the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training) was established, marking a significant milestone as it was the first time that journalism training and research was conducted in a school outside the Party school system, and moreover, at a leading university in training and research in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam - Hanoi University!

During my time working at the Department of International Studies, perhaps the photo that went viral on Facebook the fastest was the one of the four professors, the four heads of the department, taken during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Department's founding.

Everyone has their "first times," and I've had many: my first time living in a rented room, my first time traveling, my first time flying, my first time going to the movies alone... but among all those firsts, I remember most vividly a first that not everyone has: my first time standing in a lecture hall – as a lecturer.

I still remember one autumn day. The courtyard of the Faculty of Humanities was… completely flooded. Hanoi experienced a historic flood at the end of October 2008. Only a handful of us in my class, whose homes were close enough to the school, could walk to class that day. We were all secretly thrilled that we would get a day off. We went out into the hallway, looked at the flooded school, and saw a familiar figure wading through the water. It was our teacher – Professor Nguyen Ba Dat from the Psychology Department. We cheered, clapped, and encouraged him to wade through the entire courtyard. Finally, he finished, went into the classroom, and… dismissed the class.

Just yesterday, the university allowed me to attend a training course on "Innovative and Creative Educators." Through many excellent lessons and the acquisition of much new knowledge, I listened to a research report by a lecturer on "Student Satisfaction at Hanoi National University." One of the survey results that I consider most accurate is that 98% of students highly appreciate and are very satisfied with the university's teaching staff. This assessment is not only based on academic qualifications, skills, or teaching methods, but more importantly, on the core value that each person should possess: humanistic values.
