Turn disadvantages into advantages
In 2020, when the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities recruited its first class, Chi's family let her take the entrance exam simply because the school was close to home and had a team of quality university teachers.
Being the first generation of students at the new school, studying on the same campus as the university, Chi and her friends received special attention from the teachers. Through that, Chi had the opportunity to develop her full potential, and experience many interesting activities and events with her university students.
Tung Chi is the Secretary of the Youth Union, Vice President of Literature - Sports - Arts and Head of Geography in the program welcoming grade 10 students "Knock and Joys" in 2022. Chi also regularly participates in supporting teachers in managing and organizing class events.
Tung Chi said: “I feel very lucky that my Geography class is very united and fully supports me when I join the executive committee. I also have a group of close friends who are all talented and lovely, always by my side when I encounter difficulties and help each other improve.”
Tung Chi was recognized as "Individual with positive contributions to the Youth Union's work" for three consecutive years 2021, 2022 and 2023; "Outstanding young face at the grassroots level" in 2021 and 2022; "Outstanding student" in the 2022-2023 school year of the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities.
However, as a first-year student, Chi and her friends did not have seniors to guide them, nor did they have clubs for extracurricular activities. Tung Chi turned that disadvantage into an advantage by standing up to open a club and becoming an active member of several other projects. She also researched and learned more to become a pioneer and inspiration for her juniors.
Tung Chi is the founder, President and Head of the Dance Committee of the HSSH Lands of Art (HLA) Art Club under the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities. This is not only an environment that helps Chi develop her dancing and performing talents, but running a club also gives Chi many skills in management and handling situations. In addition, Chi is also the Head of the Human Resources Committee of the Humans of HSSH Club for the period 2020-2022 and Deputy Head of the Dance Committee of the Melomance charity project.

In terms of studying, Tung Chi also achieved impressive results with a 12th grade GPA of 9.5 and an IELTS certificate of 7.0. However, Chi said that she is not a student who spends 8 hours a day just studying. Chi always arranges to be able to balance between studying and participating in extracurricular activities and socializing with friends. This helps create a comfortable mentality, avoiding the pressure of studying and taking exams that leads to boredom and giving up.
Win a scholarship by applying to only 1 school
Tung Chi is the owner of a National Scholarship worth 50% of tuition fees for three years of study at British University Vietnam (BUV). It is known that from more than 1,000 applications, the school selected 12 most suitable students to award different levels of scholarships and Chi was excellently included in the above list.
This was the first and only international university Tung Chi applied to, so Chi encountered many difficulties. This scholarship was very competitive, so Chi had to research and prepare carefully so that her application would impress the review board. In addition, Chi made the decision to apply for the scholarship late, so the time to prepare the application was quite urgent, only within a month.
Tung Chi impresses with her dynamic and individual appearance.
In the application round, the personal essay was the thing that gave Chi the most "headache" because it had to be written entirely in English. Chi had to edit it many times to make the content both attractive and able to demonstrate her personal strengths to the panel.
For the face-to-face interview, as someone with good communication and interaction skills, Chi did not feel much pressure. Thanks to that, Chi was able to maintain a calm mind and confidently answer the questions from the interview panel.
When asked about his strengths that help him stand out, Tung Cho shared: “In addition to my academic scores and IELTS certificate, I participate in many extracurricular activities and often hold leadership positions.
I am also running a small business model, specializing in selling self-designed sticker products. Thanks to that, I have more experience in sales management and marketing activities. I think this is a big plus when applying for BUV's Marketing Management program."
Although still waiting for the admission results from some other universities, Tung Chi will definitely study at BUV. After a few direct experiences, Chi really likes the new facilities, large campus and 100% foreign teachers with extensive experience and friendliness of the school.
After completing the high school graduation exam, Tung Chi will spend time with family, friends and herself. Taking advantage of the summer vacation, Chi plans to learn some new skills such as presentation or Photoshop photo editing software, making PowerPoint presentations to prepare for the new school year in a new environment.
“I am a very active person and extremely confident in my own abilities. All the achievements I have achieved up to now are due to my constant belief in myself. So if anyone is planning to win scholarships, please always keep this belief,” Tung Chi affirmed.
