This was the content agreed upon at the working session and signing of the memorandum of cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the Central Culture Committee, Vietnam Buddhist Association on May 12, 2024.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement and the scientific seminar on planning Buddhist cultural centers, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan quoted the late Professor Tran Van Giau as saying, "The dawn of our nation has been linked to Buddhism; Buddhism is the torch of civilization in our country." The Rector emphasized the worldly engagement of Buddhism and the important contributions of Buddhist culture to the nation's historical process, supporting the plan to establish several Buddhist cultural centers in strategically important cultural and social areas. The Professor expressed his belief that these Buddhist cultural centers will simultaneously be community cultural and social spaces that make practical contributions to social stability, people's unity, and local tourism development… in accordance with the spirit of "Buddhism – Nation – Socialism."
Rector Hoang Anh Tuan affirmed that, with a team of nearly 400 highly qualified, interdisciplinary scientists currently working in more than 30 specialized fields, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will accompany and share the professional tasks of the Central Culture Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in the coming time, including the United Nations Vesak Celebration 2025 to be held in Vietnam. The university also hopes to receive the attention and support of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in research and training programs in Religious Studies and Religious Affairs at all three levels: bachelor, master, and doctoral.
According to the cooperation agreement, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the Central Culture Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Association will jointly carry out research topics, projects, and programs on Buddhist culture; collaborate on scientific conferences on Buddhist culture; and conduct scientific seminars, communication, writing, editing, and publishing of publications related to Vietnamese Buddhist culture.
In addition, the two units will cooperate in organizing surveys, research, collection, and systematization of documents on Buddhist culture, building scientific dossiers on valuable Buddhist culture, with the aim of preserving, honoring, and promoting the value of Vietnamese Buddhist cultural heritage.
During the meeting, scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities also contributed many opinions and suggestions to the draft project "Vietnamese Buddhist Architecture - Unity in Diversity" of the Central Culture Committee, Vietnam Buddhist Association.
