Concluding the 5th YICMG

On July 9th, 2021, the Closing Ceremony of the 5th "Youth Innovation Competition on Lancang-Mekong Region’s Governance and Development" (YICMG) took place in the online format. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and leading representatives of the Office for  Cooperation and Development and Office for Academic Affairs represented the University to attend the ceremony.
“Youth Innovation on Mekong Basin Development and Governance” (YICMG) is a competition for university students from 6 countries in the Mekong Basin: China, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam. The purpose of the competition is to strengthen environmental and economic cooperation among the countries around the Mekong River Basin, enhance global visions, and promote the creativity and governance capacity of the youth of these countries. Participating students develop projects to protect and promote this area, in which there are plenty of unique cultural features. The best projects from different countries are selected for the Final Round.

Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the 2020 Final Round was held in the online format for students from 6 countries in Mekong River Basin. The representing universities of Vietnam were the Diplomatic Academy and USSH, VNU. USSH had 75 students registering with 25 projects, of which 12 were selected for competition. In the final round, students of the University won 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes and 2 third prizes.

At the Closing Ceremony of the 5th “Youth Innovation on Mekong Basin Development and Governance” (YICMG), Prof.Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of USSH) said, Vietnam is one of the countries around the Mekong River Basin and is particularly interested in the governance and development of this region. Therefore, as a representative of Vietnam, USSH highly appreciates the importance of YICMG in building the collective strength of countries to solve pressing regional problems. At the same time, the contest is an opportunity for universities and students from 6 countries to enjoy intercultural exchanges, international cooperation, learn from each other, promote the spirit of enterprising, and express their views on practical problems.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU will tentatively hold the 6th YICMG. The University will coordinate with other organizers to promote and spread the spirit and values ​​of the program to its students.
