Summer Course 2023’s Closing Ceremony for students of Virginia University (USA) and VNU-USSH.

On the morning of August 11, 2023, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) held the closing ceremony of the credit exchange program for students from Virginia University (USA).

Summer Course 2023 with the theme "Hanoi’s Red River: Development, Climate & Rights to to the City" hosted by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in cooperation with the University of Virginia (USA) from July 15 to August 12, 2023. There were 09 students from the Faculty of International Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU selected to join the course with international students. Many students saw this as a valuable opportunity to interact with international students, improve their English skills, and expand their learning opportunities in a multicultural environment.

With the companionship and guidance of Professor Spencer Phillip and Dr. Ngo Huong from the Department of International Studies, Virginia University and lecturers from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the students were able to learn and research issues regarding society and economy in the ecology and geography of Hanoi, in the Red River basin.
The course offered valuable experiences through projects, applied research with GIS tools, systems modeling, quantitative and qualitative research with the guidance of senior lecturers from the two universities and experts from many organizations in Vietnam.
In nearly 01 month of study, students have studied various topics such as history, architecture, archeology of Hanoi - Red River basin, urban development and planning, climate change, river basin transport management, development and access of open space, solid waste and water resource management, urban housing and migrant workers, communication in development…
International students are also very interested in practical activities in Ha Long, Moc Chau to study the topic "Sustainable tourism, ocean waste management" and the Project "Clean water, development and ethnic minority culture, sustainable agriculture”.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU was delighted with the success of the Summer Course 2023 and more opportunities between the two universities.
Speaking at the Closing Ceremony of the 2023 Summer Course for University of Virginia students, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU highly appreciated the learning spirit of the students of  Virginia University as well as students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This course was not only an opportunity to expand knowledge through field research, but also a means to connect the students together, and with it, strengthen the bond between the two universities.
