- The thesis has specifically and comprehensively reconstructed the picture of higher education under the Republic of Vietnam government from 1956 to 1964 and from 1965 to 1975 in terms of system/structure, training objectives, content, training methods, faculty and students, facilities, budget, and university management organization.

- The thesis clarifies the relationship between the historical conditions of South Vietnam under the Republic of Vietnam government and the development of higher education from 1956 to 1975.

- The dissertation shed light on the transformation of higher education in the Republic of Vietnam from an elite, academic French-style higher education from 1956 to 1964 to a mass, practical American-style university model from 1965 to 1975.

- The dissertation has explored and systematized a rich and diverse body of documentation on education in general and higher education in particular under the government of the Republic of Vietnam, especially primary sources currently preserved at the National Archives Center II in Ho Chi Minh City.

- The thesis has drawn some lessons that can serve as a reference for supplementing the development of higher education in Vietnam today.

- The thesis clarifies the transformation of higher education in The Republic of Vietnam from the model of French education which had classical and elite characteristics to the model of American practical education.

- The thesis has collected and systematized the abundant historical materials (including primary and secondary sources) relating to the education in general and higher education in particular in The Republic of Vietnam, especially, the primary ones preserved at The Vietnam National Archives number II in Ho Chi Minh city.
