- Object of study: The workDiscounted rates.

2.Research methods

- Sino-Nom textological method

- Interdisciplinary methods

3. Major results and conclusions

3.1.The major results

- An overview of the status of the study of social reality, cultural representations regarding familial rituals, as well as of the author Ho Si Duong and theDiscounted Tradefrom the beginning of the twentieth century to the present.

- New findings on the author Ho Si Duong and a textological interpretation of theDiscounted Trade

- A view on the role and mission of theDiscounted Tradein the development history of Vietnamese familial rituals in general and Vietnamese Confucian familial rituals in particular.

3.2.Conclusions

- Vietnamese familial rituals refer to ceremonial activities within families and clans, mainly funerary rituals. The study of familial rituals from the early twentieth century to the early 80s of the twentieth century has its main object of study and basis of reference in the actual ceremonies and rituals themselves, with traditional works on familial rituals being considered mere additional reference sources. From the late 1980s until now, traditional works on familial rituals have been studied from textological and ethnologic point-of-views...etc Meanwhile, Ho Si Duong and theDiscounted Tradehave been barely researched, usually referred to with brief introductions or initial surveys of the text. There has been no in-depth research on the text, content and value of the work.

-Regarding the workDiscounted rates, the initial stages of writing began after 1638 and the work was completed after 1676, including two volumes: “Gia Le Quoc Ngu Quyen Chi Ha” (Family Rites in National Language, Volume 1 -Familial rituals in written Vietnamese, the Upper Volume) and “Gia le van dap Quyen chi Ha” (Family Q&A Volume Ha -Questions and Answers on Rituals, the Lower Volume), each with its own structure and purpose.

- The best edition (in our view) is the printed edition of the Fifth Year of the Reign of Vinh Huu (1739), AB.572 (The Institute of Sino-Nom Studies).

- TheDiscounted Tradehas a crucial role both as a continuance and an initiator in the Vietnamese system of works on familial rituals.

-In the development history of Vietnamese familial rituals, rituals as described in the widely published workDiscounted rates, created on the basis of Vietnamese Confucian thinking, had a special mission in the forming process of Confucian family rituals during the Late Le Restoration Period and the basic features of Vietnamese familial rituals in general.
