Truc Lam Buddhism originated and flourished during the Tran Dynasty. It became a spiritual anchor for the Tran Dynasty's rulers and their people in building and defending the nation, while also contributing to the preservation and enrichment of the nation's traditional culture.
However, during the Later Le Dynasty, Truc Lam Buddhism gradually declined. Zen monks and nuns retreated to the mountains and forests for secluded practice, and the lineage lacked a clear continuation. In this context, in the latter half of the 17th century, a brilliant Zen master emerged: Master Chan Nguyen - Tue Dang. He made a significant contribution to the revival of Truc Lam Buddhism during the Tran Dynasty after a long period of decline. Following in his footsteps, successive generations of disciples continued his legacy. Thanks to this, the Truc Lam Zen lineage has continued to flow ever since.
Through an analysis of the role of Zen Master Chân Nguyên in the efforts to revive Trúc Lâm Buddhist thought, revive scriptures, practice, and restore places of worship according to Trúc Lâm Buddhism during the Trần dynasty, this thesis highlights his immense contribution to the revival of Trúc Lâm Buddhism during the Trần dynasty in the 17th and 18th centuries.
