10. Summary of the thesis results:
This thesis clarifies the factors influencing the adjustment of ASEAN countries' defense and security policies from 2010 to 2020. External factors play a fundamental decisive role, while internal factors act as a driving force behind the adjustment of ASEAN countries' defense and security policies. Among the external factors, the "global context" factor is the dominant one, directly impacting and guiding other factors.
Based on the influencing factors, this thesis analyzes and clarifies the process of adjusting the defense and security policies of ASEAN countries. The main objective of this adjustment is to strengthen the protection of sovereignty and internal political security, enhance defense capabilities, and balance competition among major powers in the region.
Furthermore, the thesis also assessed the effectiveness of the adjustment of ASEAN countries' defense and security policies. On the one hand, the adjustments have helped ASEAN enhance its capacity to protect its sovereignty; on the other hand, they have helped ASEAN gradually balance the power competition among countries in the region. In addition, the thesis also assessed the impact and offered recommendations for adjusting Vietnam's defense and security policy in the future.
