The Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi was officially established in 1995, according to Decision No. 436/TCCB of the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi on October 21, 1995. In fact, the Faculty began its activities in 1993, training and researching on regional studies and country studies in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary direction.
After nearly 30 years of establishment and development, the position of the Faculty in society has been increasingly affirmed. Up to now, the Faculty of Oriental Studies has trained more than 2,000 undergraduate students and more than 200 masters. 90% of the Faculty's students after graduation find jobs in their major.
At the regular undergraduate level, the Faculty has developed four training programs: Oriental Studies (including Chinese Studies, Indian Studies, Thai Studies), Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, and Southeast Asian Studies. Every year, the number of students admitted to the Faculty of Oriental Studies according to the quota is 280 students. At the graduate level, the Faculty is currently training in Japanese Studies, Asian Studies at the Master's level; Japanese Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, and Chinese Studies at the Doctoral level.
The current training program of Oriental Studies is modern, updated and systematic. According to the orientation of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary training, students are taught and equipped with comprehensive knowledge including: history, culture, geography, economics, literature, politics - diplomacy... of Asian countries. In particular, students also learn specialized foreign languages such as English, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese... and experience activities.
The Faculty of Oriental Studies sets itself the mission:
Continue to promote internal strength and collective strength, expand the development of departments in parallel with the integration of departments in training and research on regional studies and country studies; build and develop a team of highly qualified staff; constantly update and improve the curriculum system, build new training programs, improve the structure of the Faculty's training programs at all training levels; develop and seek new models in foreign affairs and scientific research activities; strive to become a training and research institution approaching the standards of high-class universities in the region and the world.
