Tradition is strength
Not long after the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, on October 10, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 45/SL to establish the University of Letters in Hanoi with the aim of bringing the country's science to "keep up with the pace of advanced countries around the world". On June 4, 1956, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 2183/CP to establish Hanoi University. From 1956 to 1995 was a period of strong development for Hanoi University as the leading center for basic science research and training in the country, effectively serving the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. Also from here, a team of professors and leading scientists of the country was born. The most basic foundations of Vietnamese science were built and affirmed their value.
In September 1995, on the basis of the Social Sciences and Humanities of Hanoi National University, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was officially established and became a core member of Hanoi National University. During nearly 80 years of construction and development, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has always been considered by the Party and State of Vietnam as the largest training and research center for social sciences and humanities in the country, with the task of training a team of highly qualified basic science staff, serving the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Along with the development of the School, in recent years, the Trade Union organization of
University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi National University has become increasingly strong and developed in all aspects. With the motto of concentrating resources and creating a strong change in the quality and effectiveness of trade union activities; performing well the task of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of trade union members, to consolidate and strengthen the close connection between trade union members and trade union organizations, contributing to building a strong trade union organization. On that basis, the University Trade Union sets out the goal of innovating the content and methods of trade union activities of departments, representing and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of teachers and workers; widely organizing patriotic emulation movements and industry campaigns; propagating and participating in innovation in management work; training and fostering trade union officials, building an increasingly strong University Trade Union, contributing to the fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education, making the University of Social Sciences and Humanities soon become a research university.
Achievements in political and ideological work
During the 2017 - 2023 term, under the direct direction of the Party Committee of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Trade Union of Hanoi National University, the Executive Board of the Trade Union of the University has always been active and proactive in directing and implementing activities to implement the Resolution of the 6th Congress of the Trade Union of Hanoi National University, Resolution of the 15th Congress of the Vietnam Education Trade Union and Resolution 12 of the Vietnam Trade Union, especially the 7 full-term work programs of the Vietnam Education Trade Union. The contents have been specified in the plan and program of activities of the University Trade Union. The activities have been carried out seriously and effectively, showing changes in both quality and quantity of activities. The programs and plans of the Education Trade Union and the Hanoi National University Trade Union, through many integrated forms, are rich, diverse, practical, suitable for many means such as websites, Facebook groups, Zalo, emails, etc., contributing to promoting the effectiveness of activities, creating a wide spread among all union members. Thereby helping cadres grasp the policies, guidelines, and regulations of the government at all levels, especially the issues being implemented by the education sector. 100% of union members are able to study, propagate, and disseminate the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws, and the Union Resolutions at all levels.

Regarding political and ideological work, clearly defining the position, role and mission of the School in nurturing high-quality talents for the country, therefore, the School pays special attention to political and ideological work, doing a good job of propaganda to raise political and ideological awareness for union members. Implementing the leadership resolutions of the Party at all levels, implementing Directive 40/CT - TW of the Central Party Secretariat on improving the quality of teachers and educational managers by 2020, the campaign "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style", the Resolution of the Trade Union Congress at all levels, and at the same time closely following the key political tasks of the School, political and ideological work is always continuously and regularly deployed by the Party Committee and the Executive Committee of the School's Trade Union. Political and ideological work is carried out in many rich, practical and lively forms through political, cultural and artistic activities, combined with summary activities, source activities/field visits to historical and cultural sites of the nation. In the period of 2017 - 2023, the political and ideological education work of the School has achieved important results, in which the majority of union members have a firm viewpoint and ideological stance, maintain the moral qualities of teachers and civil servants, and successfully complete assigned tasks.

Accompany and effectively support union members in training to improve their professional qualifications and skills.
With the goal of contributing to the rapid development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities into a research university, the University's Trade Union Executive Committee regularly takes care of the education, training and development of staff, "taking work efficiency as a measure to evaluate and classify union members". At the same time, through these activities, the goal is to connect union members in the University, improve professional capacity, grasp the advantages and difficulties that union members, especially young union members, are facing, and from there, plan to propose support solutions. During the 2017 - 2023 term, the University's Trade Union has implemented the policy of building union activities that are not only superficial activities, cultural and spiritual activities for union members, not just purely visiting and encouraging union members, but union activities in the new context must closely follow the goals and development orientation of the University; Must accompany the government to deploy professional activities extensively to respond and accompany the government to well implement the school's targets and tasks.
In the 2017 - 2023 term, the University's Trade Union organized many professional activities such as: "Innovation in teaching and research from the perspective of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities" (2017); "Standardization of academic titles for young lecturers" (2018); "Trade union members with improving English proficiency in teaching and research" (2019); "Exploiting learning materials and applying technology in teaching and research" (2019); “Research on the Vietnamese Highlands: History and Interdisciplinary Approaches” (2020); “Designing Multimedia Lectures” (2021); “Application of Mendeley Software to Manage Citation Sources” (2022); “Promoting the Link Between Research and International Publications among Lecturers” (2022). Through these seminars, union members, especially young union members, have recognized their shortcomings, especially English proficiency and the ability to write scientific articles for high-impact journals (ISI, Scopus), thereby proposing strategies to develop the School’s staff in line with the current development trend.






With the results achieved in the past term, the School's Trade Union has been continuously recognized as a strong grassroots Trade Union, excellently completing its tasks, and has been awarded many emulation titles and rewards such as: Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training; Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam Education Trade Union; Emulation Flag of the Vietnam Education Trade Union; Emulation Flag of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
The Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was awarded the title of Strong Grassroots Trade Union with Excellent Emulation Movement in the 2018-2019 school year by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
It can be said that the 2017 - 2023 term, although nearly 3 years of being affected and complicated by the Covid-19 pandemic, causing damage and difficulties to most socio-economic activities, affecting many aspects of society, and at the same time greatly affecting the material and spiritual life of the School's union members. However, the School's Union Executive Committee has overcome difficulties, chaired and participated in many practical activities to effectively support union members and society. The School's Union has done a good job of propaganda, political ideology and ethics education for staff, teachers and workers; proactively participated in professional management work, making an important contribution to building an increasingly strong team of teachers and managers to effectively implement the Party's Resolution on "fundamental and comprehensive innovation of Vietnam's education" in the new period. Adhering closely to resolutions, term plans, school year plans, associated with expertise, overcoming difficulties, and excellently completing tasks. In addition, the School also gradually innovates the content and methods of trade union activities to be suitable, focusing on effectively implementing the trade union function as a representative to protect the legitimate rights and interests of teachers and workers.
