Congress to establish the Philosophy Branch of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi

Professor Dr. Le Huu Nghia – former Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, former Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, former Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine, former Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and President of the Philosophy Association.

Attending and directing the Congress, on behalf of the Philosophy Association were Prof. Dr. Le Huu Nghia - former member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, former Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, former Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine, former Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and President of the Philosophy Association; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen An Lich - former leader of the Philosophy Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and Vice President of the Philosophy Association. On behalf of the University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh - Vice Rector and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thien Thanh - Head of the Personnel and Organization Department. On behalf of the Steering Committee for the establishment of the Philosophy Association were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Standing Committee member of the Philosophy Association, Head of the Philosophy Department, and Head of the Steering Committee for the establishment of the branch association; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Chi My - former Standing Committee member of the Hanoi City Party Committee, former Head of the Propaganda Department of the Hanoi City Party Committee, and Head of the Political Program of the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology, along with 56 branch association members who are philosophy specialists in the University.

The Congress adopted the Report on the teaching and research situation of Philosophy at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the direction and plan of activities of the Chapter for the term 2021-2026. The report emphasized the advantages and difficulties in teaching and research of Philosophy at the University; and at the same time acknowledged the achievements in political and ideological work, in teaching, research, and social and charitable work. During the term 2021-2026, the Philosophy Chapter of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, will focus on key tasks including protecting the legitimate rights and interests of its members; supporting members in their professional activities; improving the quality and effectiveness of research and teaching of Philosophy through training programs, professional exchange seminars, and scientific conferences; and developing a large and high-quality membership. In particular, the training and support of members in teaching and scientific research is given top priority with many specific plans and solutions.

Representatives from the school leadership presented flowers to congratulate the Philosophy Association and its branch.

Contributing to the Report and the direction and plan of activities for the Branch Association in the 2021-2026 term, members offered many suggestions on professional development activities and scientific cooperation and exchange between Branch Associations, thereby making recommendations and policy proposals to the Philosophy Association and higher management levels.

Speaking at the Congress, Professor Le Huu Nghia, President of the Philosophy Association, emphasized that, in addition to scientific research, training is a strength of Hanoi National University. Therefore, the activities of the branch association need to seamlessly combine research and training to further develop this strength. The professor also expressed confidence that, with its long tradition and a large and high-quality membership, the Philosophy Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi National University, will be a strong branch association, leading the movement of the Association and achieving the goals set for the term. On behalf of the University's Board of Directors, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh expressed gratitude for the close attention and guidance of the Philosophy Association's leadership in establishing the Philosophy Branch at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. He also expressed confidence that the establishment of the Philosophy Branch at the university will be a new driving force and a bridge contributing significantly to the development of philosophical science in both research and training at the university in particular, and at Hanoi National University in general.

With a high sense of responsibility and promoting a democratic spirit, the Congress elected the Executive Committee of the Branch Association for the 2021-2026 term, consisting of 5 members: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – Head of the Philosophy Department, Standing Committee Member of the Philosophy Association: Branch Association President; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Hao – Head of the History of Philosophy Department: Branch Association Vice President; Dr. Tran Thi Dieu – Deputy Head of the Philosophy Department: Branch Association Vice President; Dr. Pham Hoang Giang – Deputy Head of the Philosophy Department: Member; Dr. Mai K. Da – Lecturer in the Philosophy Department: Member.

On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Branch Association for the 2021-2026 term, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan expressed his gratitude and hoped to continue receiving the close attention and guidance of the Philosophy Association, the support and favorable conditions from the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the University; and thanked the members of the Branch Association for their trust and confidence. The Executive Committee of the Branch Association affirmed its determination to inherit the tradition of solidarity and the spirit of dedication to science of its members to complete the set plan, contributing to improving the quality of teaching and research in Philosophy in the University and VNU Hanoi.
