For many years, the Tradition Room of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has dedicated a prominent place to honoring the soldiers who sacrificed and contributed to the cause of national defense.
To have a dignified and convenient place to commemorate the fallen soldiers, to remember the heroic and tragic memories in the great cause of defending the Fatherland, and to educate the younger generation to uphold the glorious revolutionary traditions of the University, the construction of the Monument commemorating the event of Hanoi University's staff and students joining the military to defend the Fatherland (hereinafter referred to as the Monument) is very necessary.

The Veterans Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities discussed the construction of a memorial monument. During a meeting with veterans in December 2018, the university leadership acknowledged the Veterans Association's proposal and pledged support for its construction.

With the approval of the leaders of the University of Natural Sciences and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and at the request of the Student Soldiers Association 6971 and the Veterans Associations of the two units, the leaders of the two universities decided to choose the courtyard of the University of Natural Sciences as the location for the memorial monument. This location holds historical value and sacred significance. At this location, on September 6, 1971, Professor Nguy Nhu Kon Tum, Rector of the University of General Sciences, bid farewell to nearly 400 cadres and students from seven faculties: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, History, Geography, and Biology, who were heading off to defend the Fatherland.
Currently, the design of the monument and administrative procedures have been completed, and the monument is expected to be inaugurated in 2021.
We respectfully present to all generations of faculty and students, individuals and organizations associated with Hanoi University (now the University of Natural Sciences and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) the documents and images related to the construction of the Memorial Monument.
