Knowledge about religion and beliefs is incredibly rich, vibrant, and closely intertwined with cultural, economic, and social life, especially in a multi-religious country like Vietnam.
Furthermore, modern social life is giving rise to new religious and belief phenomena that require proper explanation, evaluation, and understanding from a scientific perspective on religion. Therefore, religious studies is becoming increasingly important in Vietnam as well as around the world.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Kim Oanh, Head of the Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the Department of Religious Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities is currently the first unit to offer all three levels of training in Religious Studies: Bachelor, Master, and Doctor.
The Religious Studies program at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities focuses on equipping students with systematic and in-depth knowledge of religious theory, world religions, the role and position of religion in social life, while also being highly interdisciplinary and widely applicable in practice.
In addition, it is important to enhance practical training and equip students with the necessary skills for employment after graduation.
Associate Professor Dr. Oanh stated that graduates of Religious Studies can apply for a wide range of job positions at central and local government agencies in the fields of culture, religion, and belief; research and training institutions; religious organizations in Vietnam; media and press agencies; publishing houses, etc.
It is understood that, in the near future, the Department of Religious Studies will soon open a new major to train specialized personnel in state management of religious and belief activities, meeting the current high demand for human resources.
