Department of Political Science and International Studies: From “Two Academic Traditions” to “A New Journey”

The year 2026 marks a significant milestone in the development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, with the official establishment of the Faculty of Politics and International Studies through the merger of the Faculty of Political Science and the Faculty of International Studies. This is not only an organizational event but also a new step forward, building upon the academic foundations that have been developed and nurtured over more than three decades.

Established in 1995, the Faculty of Political Science and the Faculty of International Studies are two pioneering units in training and research in the fields of Political Science, International Studies, and International Relations in Vietnam. Over more than 30 years of development, the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies has trained thousands of bachelors, hundreds of masters, and doctoral graduates; providing high-quality human resources for Party and State agencies, international organizations, diplomatic agencies, research institutes, universities, businesses, and many other fields at the central and local levels. Besides training activities, the Faculty has also made its mark through numerous research projects, scientific topics, national and international conferences, and valuable academic cooperation programs, affirming its leading position and prestige in the Vietnamese higher education system.

The Faculty of Political Science and International Studies is one of the key specialized units of the national scientific conference "New Points in the Documents of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam: Thinking, Vision and Orientation for National Development".

In the context of increasingly interconnected political, regional, and international issues, governance, foreign affairs, and international integration, the interdisciplinary training and research model of the Faculty of Politics and International Studies will provide students with access to comprehensive, modern, interdisciplinary, and up-to-date knowledge. Graduates will possess the competence and skills to work in diverse environments and will be highly adaptable to the changing demands of the domestic and international labor markets.

Entering a new phase of development, with a student-centered philosophy, the Faculty is committed to continuously improving the quality of its training programs, developing its faculty, expanding its domestic and international cooperation network, and creating a modern, open, and inspiring academic environment where each student can maximize their potential.

Building upon its established traditions, the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies will continue to accompany generations of students on their journey of knowledge discovery, fostering academic thinking, developing integration skills, and cultivating a spirit of social service. At the same time, the Faculty will continue to strive for new visions, with higher standards in training, scientific research, innovation, policy consulting, and community service.

The Faculty of Politics and International Studies currently offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs with 8 degree programs. Specifically, there are 2 bachelor's programs (Political Science and International Studies), 4 master's programs (Political Science, International Studies, Public Policy, Public Management, and Global Management), and 2 doctoral programs (Political Science and International Studies - specializing in International Relations).
