With the theme "Vietnam in me", foreign students participating in the contest shared in Vietnamese their understanding of the country, people and culture of Vietnam; profound memories of life, study and living in Vietnam; and the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and the students' home country.
Launched in August,
"Vietnamese Speech Contest for Foreign Students in Vietnam" 2023attracted many universities, colleges, and Vietnamese language training institutions with foreign students studying abroad. 65 training institutions nationwide, from 29 provinces/cities, registered to participate. This is one of the clearest evidences of the deep interest and love of international friends for the country, people of Vietnam, and Vietnamese culture. In the preliminary round of the Northern region, 35 teams competed with carefully prepared performances.
In the form of a speech contest, each team will select 2-3 main speakers, with a maximum presentation time of 7 minutes for each part. The speakers will present their speeches in Vietnamese on a topic of their choice, and may use accompanying illustrations to increase the appeal and persuasiveness of the contest. The foreign students not only demonstrated fluent, articulate presentations and an understanding of Vietnamese language and culture, but also had outstanding artistic performances.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc believes that each performance today is a unique creation, leaving an impression, not only on foreign students but also on all audiences, those who follow the competition, and Vietnamese people, to see Vietnam through many different perspectives, to love and understand our own country more.
Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi said that VNU-USSH hosting the "Vietnamese Speech Contest for Foreign Students in 2023" will contribute to training Vietnamese language and spreading Vietnamese culture to friends around the world. Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc said that Vietnamese language and culture are increasingly asserting their position in the international arena; more and more foreigners are interested in and studying them. Vietnamese has also become one of the foreign languages taught in many educational institutions in many countries and territories around the world.
Therefore, according to Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc, teaching and learning Vietnamese is not only about teaching language and equipping knowledge acquisition tools, but also about promoting culture, spreading national identity and improving intercultural communication skills for international students studying in Vietnam in particular, foreigners and those who love Vietnamese language and culture in general.

The contest left a lot of impressions on the audience. The representatives of the contest were international students from France, Korea, and Japan who are currently studying at the University of Foreign Languages, VNU. They expressed their impressions of living and studying at the University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam. We were very surprised about the first days when we arrived in Vietnam with Vietnamese people riding motorbikes fast, drinking iced tea and lemon tea on the sidewalk, especially many delicious dishes, many beautiful landscapes, harmonious and hospitable people, especially Vietnamese teachers and friends who always wholeheartedly help international students.
“I love Vietnam very much and want to convey that love to international students and foreigners in Vietnam!”; “I am grateful to Vietnam for giving me a brilliant youth”; “For us, Vietnam is our second home” - those are the feelings of international students from the competing teams when sharing their warm feelings for the country and people of Vietnam.
